Handball Libertadores Finals, with the final day of the Men’s SCA Handball Club Championship taking place in Asunción. The Paraguayan Olympic Committee’s facilities served as the venue for the six-day competition.
SUMMARY OF THE LAST MATCHDAY:
FMO PORTUGUÊS vs. ARGENTINOS JRS. 3rd/4th Place Match
In the match to determine third and fourth place at the COP Arena, Argentinos Juniors defeated FMO Português 26-24 and claimed third place on the podium at the Handball Libertadores.
The first few minutes of the match were evenly matched, but Argentinos gradually improved their team play.
After the score was tied at 10-10, Argentinos Juniors managed to take the lead, bringing the score to 13-10 in their favor.
In extra time, the FMO Português team tried to stay in the game and close the goal gap. Meanwhile, Fernando Capurro’s team worked on their positioning and capitalized on their opponent’s defensive mistakes.
Argentinos Juniors played with more discipline on offense and came away with the victory, which moved them into third place.
The top scorer of the match was Lucas Sportelli with 6 goals; the MVP was Enzo Vienni, who scored the game-winning goal.

TAUBATÉ (BRA) vs. DORREGO (ARG) 5th/6th Place Match
The Brazilian and Argentine teams faced off to determine fifth and sixth place in the SCA Club Tournament. Taubaté defeated Dorrego 27-20 and remained in fifth place.
The first half between Taubaté and Dorrego was evenly matched, ending with a narrow 13-12 lead heading into halftime.
Taubaté, despite leading by four goals, made defensive mistakes and committed some turnovers that their opponent capitalized on to score on the counterattack.
In the second half, Taubaté took the field with a different approach and displayed better teamwork, which they managed to maintain until the final whistle, securing the victory.
Tomás Garay was the standout player of the game and was named MVP after scoring 7 goals.

SAN FERNANDO (ARG) vs. COL. WARD (ARG) 7th/8th Place Match
In the match to determine seventh and eighth place at the COP Arena, San Fernando defeated Colegio Ward 28-21 and finished in seventh place in the championship.
During the first half, Elio Fernández’s team played more effectively, with the score at 15-9 in favor of San Fernando.
In the second half, Colegio Ward managed to improve its play and adjust its offense, but the lead built by the opponent ultimately proved decisive in San Fernando’s victory, which moved it up to 7th place. The game’s MVP was Ezequiel Giménez.

RIVER PLATE (ARG) vs. PONTEVEDRÉS (URU) 9th/10th Place
In a very physical and intense match for 9th place, River Plate defeated Pontevedrés 30-22.
The Argentine team managed to pull ahead toward the end of the first half thanks to its defense and went into halftime leading 13-9.
In the second half, River played with more organization on offense, extended its lead as the minutes ticked by, and ultimately closed out the game in commanding fashion. The MVP of the match was Valentino Rossetto, who scored six goals in River’s victory.

LUQUE (PAR) vs. SAGV BALLESTER (ARG) 11th/12th Place Match
In the match for 11th and 12th place, SAG Villa Ballester defeated Luque 43–30 and claimed the victory.
The game started off evenly, but some defensive lapses by Luque allowed the Argentine team to build a small lead and go into halftime up 18–12.
In the second half, Ballester gradually found its rhythm as the minutes ticked by and extended its lead to seal a 43-30 victory.
The MVP of the game was Francisco Soto, who was also the top scorer with 12 goals.

UNIVERSITARIO (ARG) vs. SCUOLA ITALIANA (URU) Round 13/14
In the match for 13th and 14th place, Scuola Italiana defeated Universitario de Córdoba 32–30.
Universitario’s offensive miscues in the first half allowed the Uruguayan team to go into halftime with a 15-11 lead.
In overtime, the Argentine team cut down on mistakes and managed to close the gap thanks to fast breaks, but Scuola Italiana handled the final minutes better to secure a 32–30 victory.
The MVP of the game was Agustín Rodríguez of Scuola Italiana, while the top scorer was Francisco Zidarich, who scored 8 goals for Universitario.

VILLA ELISA (PAR) vs. C. A. TRIUNFO (PAR) Week 15/16
Triunfo defeated Villa Elisa 51-38 in the opening match of the final round of the Handball Libertadores.
In a matchup between Paraguayan teams that was fast-paced from the start, Triunfo showed greater offensive effectiveness and managed to go into halftime with a 28-17 lead.
In the second half, Villa Elisa improved its defense and managed to even out the flow of the game, although the lead it had built in the first half ultimately proved decisive.
Kaique Santos was the top scorer for the winning team with 9 goals, while Enrique Alfonzo scored the same number for Villa Elisa.
