IHF Senior Nations Trophy, Lima 2026. A new competitive window opens for the women’s national teams from September 2 to 6.
This tournament will first take place in South America, and then move on to Central America from September 29 to October 3.
Each championship will award two spots per subcontinent for the qualifying tournament for the Women’s World Cup, which will take place in December.
This marks the start of the journey toward the 28th IHF World Championship (Germany and the Netherlands 2027) for emerging nations.
Promoting Growth in Emerging Nations
The IHF Nations Trophy is designed to support countries seeking to establish themselves.
For this reason, regional powers such as Argentina, Brazil, and Paraguay are not participating in this stage, since they have qualified directly for two of the last three World Cups and therefore advance directly to the qualifying tournament in December.
The following countries will participate in the competition in Lima: Bolivia, Chile, Colombia, Ecuador, Peru, Uruguay, and Venezuela. Two spots will be up for grabs to qualify for the SCA Senior Women’s Tournament.
Group A will consist of: Chile, Colombia, Venezuela, and Ecuador. Meanwhile, Group B will feature Uruguay, Peru, and Bolivia.
Match Schedule and Format: Match
times are based on Lima, Peru, and will be at 3:00 p.m., 5:00 p.m., and 7:00 p.m. There will be three matches per day.
The group stage will be played on Wednesday, September 2, Thursday, September 3, and Friday, September 4. The semifinals and placement matches will be played on Saturday, and the championship game will be played on Sunday.
With the launch of the 2026 IHF Senior Nations Trophy, the South and Central American Handball Confederation (COSCABAL) is not only opening a new competitive opportunity but also ensuring the necessary participation base to maintain our spots in World Championship tournaments.
