First day of the Men’s Club SCA. The competition kicked off this Sunday at the Libertadores Handball Tournament in Asunción, which will determine the champion of the 2026 edition.
SUMMARY OF THE FIRST DAY:
DORREGO (ARG) vs. SAN FERNANDO (ARG)
San Fernando narrowly defeated Dorrego 22-21 in a thrilling match that came down to the final minutes.
Dorrego managed to dictate the pace during the first half and went into halftime leading 9-7, thanks to strong offensive play that allowed them to control the flow of the game.
In the second half, San Fernando rallied and began to close the gap on the scoreboard, finding that seven-meter throws were a key way to stay in the game.
As the minutes ticked by, they managed to even the score and take the lead in a very close finish.

UNIVERSITARIO (ARG) vs. ARGENTINOS JUNIORS (ARG)
At the COP Arena, two Argentine teams faced off, with Argentinos Juniors defeating Universitario 24-20.
During the first half, Argentinos Juniors managed to exploit gaps in their opponent’s defense and closed out the half with a 14-9 run.
In the second half, the team coached by Rodrigo Barrera came out determined to win and adjusted its strategy on the counterattack to narrow the score gap, but it wasn’t enough.
Argentinos Juniors took home the 2 points; the MVP was goalkeeper Alan Perznianko, while the leading scorer was Facundo Endrek with 9 goals.

FMO PORTUGUÊS (BRA) vs. PONTEVEDRÉS (URU)
In their most recent match at CPH FMO’s home field, Português secured a 25-13 victory over Pontevedrés.
Dinis Andre’s team built their victory from the back, playing solid defense for much of the match and making it difficult for their opponent to mount an offensive threat.
Inaccurate passing and poor shooting efficiency hampered Pontevedrés, which struggled to break through the opponent’s defensive system. The first half ended 11-7 in favor of the Brazilians.
In the second half, they maintained control of the game and gradually extended their lead, sealing the victory with a score of 25-13.
MVP of the match was Ronaldo Catarino, who scored four goals. In addition, Maik Dos Santos had an outstanding performance in goal with nine saves and a 56% save percentage.

PINHEIROS (URU) vs. COLEGIO WARD (ARG)
The first half was evenly matched between the Brazilian and Argentine teams. Both teams played solid defense and relied on quick counterattacks to close out the half with a score of 18-17 in favor of Pinheiros over Colegio Ward.
In the second half, a tense and evenly matched start was ultimately decided in the final seconds. Ward School came away with a 29-28 victory.
MVP was Tobías Ojea, who also scored 8 goals, while the leading scorer, with 10 goals, was Philipp Seifert of Pinheiros.

RIVER PLATE (ARG) vs. VILLA ELISA (PAR)
In the Paraguayan Handball Committee, River Plate scored a resounding 42-18 victory over Villa Elisa.
The team led by Pablo Robledo dominated the game both on defense and offense and quickly pulled ahead, closing out a 23-5 run.
Second half, Villa Elisa played better and managed to keep the game more evenly matched, closing the gap on the scoreboard, but River’s first-half performance ultimately proved decisive for the final result.
Francisco Cortés led River’s offense with 7 goals, while Leandro Lonatti was named the game’s MVP.

NACIONAL vs. C. A. TRIUNFO
Nacional routed Club Atlético Triunfo 53-15 in its Group B debut.
Team showed its dominance from the start and quickly took control of the game, using defensive intensity and offensive efficiency to widen the lead as the minutes ticked by.
Their dominance was reflected in the score at the end of the first half: 29-8.
In the second half, Nacional maintained the same momentum and continued to extend its lead, relying on squad rotation and offensive efficiency, and finished the game with an 87% shooting percentage.
Isaac Silva led the offense with 11 points and was named the game’s MVP.

SAGV BALLESTER (ARG) vs SCUOLA ITALIANA (URU)
Sociedad Alemana and Gimnasia de Villa Ballester defeated Scuola Italiana 29-21 in Group A. The Argentines dominated the match from start to finish.
The score at halftime was 17-6; in the second half, Gastón Arias’s team extended their lead and added 2 points.
The MVP was Patricio Orlandi, who scored 6 goals—the same number as Nicolás Rodríguez.

TAUBATÉ vs. LUQUE
The defending champion dominated in its debut in the Handball Libertadores. Taubaté handily defeated Luque 40-23 at the Ueno Arena COP.
In the first half, Luque tried to match the Brazilians’ pace, but Taubaté’s quick breaks and wide-ranging play took a heavy physical toll on him.
Overtime, Luque had some good stretches of play, but it wasn’t enough. Taubaté extended its lead thanks to its rotation and offensive efficiency.
