Invencible Santa Fe was buzzing with excitement over the match between Brazil and Argentina. To cap off the day, the South American classic brought color and celebration to the end of the second day of competition.
Throughout all the games, the crowd cheered on the athletes, but in the final match, the stands were packed, and the home fans cheered on the Gladiators nonstop.
Summary of Day 2
Peru vs Uruguay
Uruguay defeated Peru 19–38 in the first game of the day. During the opening minutes, the score remained close, but little by little, Héctor Sintas’s team extended their lead and went into halftime up 19–10.
In the second half, the Uruguayans added to their lead; Peru stepped up its offense but it wasn’t enough, and La Celeste came away with the win.
The top scorer of the match was Giovanni Capello with 6 goals for Uruguay, while Fernando Buitrón scored 4 for Peru.
Paraguay vs. Chile
In the afternoon, Paraguay and
Chile
faced off, with Chile defeating Paraguay 20-31.
In the first half, the team led by Alexander Ruiz Diaz had some strong stretches of play; however, Chile capitalized on a few defensive mistakes to close out the half with a 14-11 lead.
In the second half, Chile tightened up its defense and launched several quick counterattacks that allowed it to score goals and secure the victory.
The top scorer of the match was Jorge Rojas of Paraguay with 7 goals, while Erwin Feutchman of Chile scored 4 goals.
Brazil vs. Argentina
The South American classic between Brazil and Argentina was Wednesday’s highlight. Argentina defeated Brazil 18-17.
It was a close first half, but as the minutes went by, Argentina made some key blocks that helped them close out the half with a 10-8 lead.
In extra time, the game remained tied, play became heated, and the Brazilian team committed fouls that resulted in two players receiving red cards: João Santos, wearing jersey number 30, and Joel Santos, wearing number 3.
Rodolfo Jung’s team held their ground on defense, with an outstanding performance by their goalkeeper, Agustín Forlino, who had a 50% save percentage.
Argentina capitalized on the crowd’s support and won the South American classic by the narrowest of margins . The top scorer of the match was Pedro Martínez Cami with 7 goals.
