Pontevedrés Club reaches the SCA Club Tournament. In the 2026 edition of the tournament will have one of the protagonists of Uruguayan handball.
The formal name is Centro Pontevedrés Social y Deportivo, a nationally prominent sports institution in Montevideo, Uruguay, especially the senior men’s team.
Club information
Pontevedrés has all handball categories from infants to adults, in both branches.
The senior men’s team is one of the protagonists of Uruguayan handball today. It competes in the tournaments organized by the Uruguayan Handball Federation, the Apertura, Clausura and the Súper 4 (definition of the federal champion).

Highlights of achievements
Pontevedrés was crowned Federal Champion 2023, after beating Colegio Alemán in the final of the Super 4. On that occasion they qualified for the SCA Tournament but could not travel and gave up their place.
They also won the title of Champion of the Clausura 2025, defeating Scuola Italiana in the final, which had just been the champion of the opening season. In addition, in 2025 they won the Federal title.
A protagonist in Uruguayan handball, Pontevedrés has established itself as one of the strongest teams in the country in recent years.
The Rebella era
Felipe Rebella has been in charge of the coaching staff since 2023, after having worked for the institution as a handball player and then as a coach in the youth categories.
“Both the 2023 and 2025 Federal Championships, I was in charge of the technical direction, together with Bruno Ramponi and Yamandu Rodriguez”.
“We are very happy and excited about our participation, it is a dream we have been pursuing for many years”, said Rebella.said Rebella.

We have been training hard, competing in the local league, doing many activities for the SCA Club Tournament.
We aim to be competitive against all rivals, and that they know the Pontevedra team at the level of international tournaments.
- What does Pontevedrés mean to Felipe Rebella?
Pontevedrés is my family, my home saw me and continues to see me grow… now as a coach. All of us who are part of Ponte have a great sense of belonging.
Key Figures
The senior team has been having outstanding performances such as those of Manuel López, Gabriel Chaparro, Bruno Mendez and Giovani Capello.
“We have 8 players who also wear the Uruguay national team jersey: Diego Falabrino, Bruno Méndez, Gabriel Chaparro, Giovani Capello, Bruno Borba, Manuel López, Facundo Lima and Juan Santiago Raña”.
Sports project
The sports project proposed by the institution has a great long-term development and projection. They have a systematic work in training that allows young players to reach the senior team.
In summary, the Pontevedrés senior men’s team is one of the most competitive clubs in Uruguayan handball today, with important titles in recent years and an outstanding training project.
From June 21-27 the city of Asuncion, Paraguay hosts the SCA Senior Men’s Club Handball Tournament.
