Daniela Mata and her trajectory in Scuola Italiana. The Senior Women’s team belongs to the institution Scuola Italiana di Montevideo and will be present in the next SCA of Clubs.
Handball at the Scuola Italiana began in 1977, being one of the founding institutions of the Uruguayan Handball Federation.
Achievements
It is one of the dominant teams in women’s handball in Uruguay. In 2025 it was crowned champion of the Women’s Senior Federal Championship, with that title it reached 18 federal championships, including 7 in the last 8 years.
It has also maintained its consistency by obtaining third place in the Uruguayan Apertura Tournament.
Scuola shows a competitive and evenly matched game with a solid training base, in addition to having continuity in the squad and in its coaching staff.
Outstanding players and a well-established coach
Noelia Artigas, their goalkeeper and MVP in the 2025 final of the Uruguayan League is one of the jewels of Scuola. Magdalena Guichón, is characterized for being a frequent scorer in finals. Another of the stars is Candelaria Duarte.
Kills in driving
The team is coached by Daniela Mata, who arrived from another institution with a group of junior and senior players in 2009.
“We started working with a new project to gradually integrate the lower categories in the women’s category, and a few years later in the men’s category under Rodrigo Botejara”.
Together they have been working for more than 10 years with all categories in both branches.
How is Scuola preparing for a new edition of the Club SCA?
As we do every year, we have been working very seriously since the beginning of the season, we know the level and the meaning that this championship has for us. We will always look for that challenge that will give us the maximum quality of experience.
What does Scuola Italiana mean to Daniela Mata?
Scuola Italiana is my home, we project growth, hard work and consistency in the goals set each year.
I am very proud of the road I have traveled, and without the support of the institution, the work does not prosper; that is why I am grateful to be and belong to the Scuola Italiana.
Scuola Italiana has participated in all editions of the SCA Club Tournament organized by COSCABAL.
