Groups defined for the World Cup in Croatia. The draw for the groups of the XII IHF Men’s and Women’s Beach Handball World Championship took place.
The draw was held this Saturday at the Croatian Handball Federation trophy room in Zagreb, Croatia.
With the participation of 16 men’s and 16 women’s teams, both world events will be played simultaneously at Lake Jarun in Zagreb, Croatia, from June 23-28, 2026.
As the organizer, Croatia (CRO) had the right to choose the group in each branch. This applied to both the men’s and women’s competitions.
South America present
Women’s Branch
Germany, the women’s world champion, was placed in group A, where it will play against UruguayNetherlands and Vietnam, champions of Asia and the Asian Beach Games.
Argentina, runner-up in the IHF Women’s World Championship 2024 and champion of the 2025 World Games, is in Group D along with Denmark, the Philippines and Benin, which is making its debut in the tournament.
The Cook Islands, also a debutant, will face 2008 champion and host Puerto Rico, Croatia and 2016 gold medalist Spain in Group B.
Group C is full of former world champions: BrazilBrazil, Norway and Greece – who have five world championships between them – will face off, along with the United States, recent champions of North America and the Caribbean.
Men’s Branch
Two groups feature regional derbies: Portugal and Spain will meet in Group A, along with Iran and the United States.
Meanwhile Argentina and Brazil will relive the South American classic in Group C, with Germany and which will be joined by Germany and tournament debutants Italy.
Meanwhile, Group B features Hungary, Denmark, Tunisia and Puerto Rico. Group D is completed by Croatia, France, Oman and Australia.
Present during the draw were Croatian player Nika Vojnovic, captain of the national team and Mladen Paradžik, coach of the men’s national team. The draw was conducted by Hristo Boskoski, member of the IHF office responsible for beach handball.
