New IHF headquarters. This Thursday, May 7 in Basel, Switzerland was officially inaugurated the headquarters of the International Handball Federation.
The event was attended by the President of the IHF, Dr. Hassan Moustafa, and the Honorary President of the International Olympic Committee, Dr. Thomas Bach.
Also participating in the ceremony was the president of COSCABAL, Marcel Mancilla, who said:
“From South and Central America we celebrate this transcendental step and reaffirm our commitment to continue working together with the IHF to strengthen the development of handball in each of our countries.
I congratulate the entire international handball family for this great achievement that will mark a new stage for our sport.”
Authorities present
Representatives of the IHF member federations, dignitaries and members gathered to witness an outstanding milestone that has been achieved after many years of work.
The symbolic ribbon cutting marked the formal inauguration of a building that will serve as the nerve center of the IHF’s global operations, a place where strategy is defined and the future of handball is written.
“This is a proud day for our sport and for our federation,” said IHF President Dr. Hassan Moustafa.said IHF President Dr. Hassan Moustafa.
“This house symbolizes everything we stand for: our unwavering commitment to the development of handball in every corner of the world.”
Official IHF Headquarters
With six floors and a total floor area of 4,869 square meters, the new IHF headquarters has been specifically designed to meet current and future needs.
Its 3,089 square meters of office and common space will constitute the operational core of the federation, facilitating coordination between the IHF headquarters and its 211 member federations around the world.
The building also has 281 square meters of warehouse space and 1,499 square meters of secondary areas, including parking.
Situated in a prime location in the heart of Basel, just a short walk from the old town, the site enjoys excellent connectivity.
“Today, in this magnificent new venue, I can only express my most sincere congratulations. May the IHF continue to flourish, grow and achieve goals in this wonderful sport that is handball!” declared IOC Honorary President Dr. Thomas Bach.
Educational handball
Beyond its operational function, the new headquarters will also serve as an educational center, hosting international training courses, development programs, commission meetings and IHF forums, centralizing expertise and knowledge sharing for Federations and professionals at all levels.
In the future, the building will also house a handball museum and library.
