Handebol Clube Taubaté the two-time champion! It is one of the men’s handball clubs in Brazil with an outstanding history located in the city of Taubatéin the state of São Paulo state.
The current two-time champion of the continent’s most important handball tournament is leading the way for children and young people in a sport that is growing in Brazil.
History and origin
The project started around the year 2000 within a sports training program called “Atleta do Futuro”.
Eventually the team joined the city’s municipal sports department and began competing in state and national tournaments.
The club’s development is closely associated with the coach Marcus Tatá Oliveiraconsidered one of the driving forces behind the project.
Outstanding track record
Handebol Clube Taubaté is considered a power in South American handball. It has won important titles at the international level:
+ Pan American Club Tournament Champion: 2013, 2014, 2015, 2016, 2018.
+ Champion of the South-Central American Club Championship, the “Libertadores of handball”. Achieved the 2019, 2022 2024, and 2025 titles.
In the National Handebol League it won 7 titles (2013, 2014, 2016, 2019, 2020, 2021, 2022). In the São Paulo State competitions it was crowned Campeonato Paulista with multiple titles (2015, 2018, 2019, 2019, 2020, 2021, 2023).
International participations
Outside Brazil, he has been the representative of South America in several participations in the IHF Super Globe which was later renamed the Club World Cup. His best result was 5th place in 2018.
Their classic rival in the 40×20 is the Esporte Clube Pinheiros. Esporte Clube Pinheiroswith whom he plays finals in Brazil and in continental tournaments.

- His growth in the Club and the achievements obtained in the Brazilian league and in the two-time championship of the Handball Libertadores were key.
- He currently plays for BM Guadalajara in Spain.
Guilherme Torriani
- Position: Extreme
- Outstanding player from Taubaté who is part of the Brazilian national team.
- He emigrated and plays for AEK Athletic Club in Greece.

The great sports architect of the project was coach Marcus Tatá Oliveira. Marcus Tatá Oliveira, who converted Taubaté into a continental power. He is currently the coach of the Brazilian men’s national team.
The Taubaté model combines municipal support, youth training and technical project continuity.
This has allowed the club to become a frequent base for the Brazilian national team, especially in World Championship and Pan American Games cycles.
Today the coach of Handebol Clube Taubaté is André Silva. He took over the team after the historical coach Tatá. Silva has been accumulating his own achievements with Club Paulista.

How is Taubaté preparing to defend its title?
“Taubaté is going through a period of reformulation after losing a base of players who emigrated to Europe.”
“Today we are working with a young, hard-working group that has been working hard to represent Handebol Taubaté in the next Sul Centroamericano tournament”.
As a coach, what do you consider most important to consolidate the team and stay among the best?
“I believe that having a strong team is not enough to have seven good players, we need 16 athletes prepared for a tournament like the South Central.
“It’s a high-level competition with very qualified teams.”.
Silva also expressed that the expectation is always to be among the best and remarked that this cycle is characterized by arenewal of the team.
