SAGV Ballester: a historical Argentine handball club. Sociedad Alemana de Gimnasia de Villa Ballester is one of the most outstanding clubs in the men’s division.
The Ballester team is preparing for a new edition of the SCA Club Tournament to be held in Asunción, Paraguay from June 21 to 27.
Legendary
Sociedad Alemana de Gimnasia de Villa Ballester was founded in 1924 in the province of Buenos Aires, Argentina.
It was originally linked to the German community but over time became a large sports institution, where handball is one of the outstanding disciplines.
Handball arrived at the Club in 1933, it is considered one of the most successful clubs in Argentina in this sport. It competes in metropolitan and national tournaments at the highest level.
Male achievements
SAGV Ballester has more than 10 titles in the “A” National Club Championship, the highest competition in Argentina.
It is also Champion of the National Clubs 2025, winning its 11th title, as well as multiple championships in youth and cadet categories.
International
At the international level, it has played in continental tournaments such as the Pan-American Club Championship, reaching the finals.
The institution has hosted international handball competitions on several occasions. As for the SCA Senior Club Championship, it participated in 2022 and is preparing to face the 2026 edition.
How is the team preparing to face a new edition of the SCA of Clubs?
“While we are focused on the FeMeBal Apertura Tournament, the goal of the first semester is the South Central where we will meet the best teams.”

Gastón Arias has been a coach at SAGV Ballester since 2007, he started coaching the youth categories.
“I started with the mini, infantile and junior teams. It was only in 2023 that I took charge of the adult team”.

“My life. My home. I have been linked to the institution since I was very young. First as a player and then as a coach.
Contribution to the selections
Ballester is one of the clubs in Argentina that trained important players who wore the jersey of “Los Gladiadores”, the national team.
One of those historic players is Andrés Kogovsek.
