The Trophy + Handball SCA U18 has started!

The SCA U18 Men’s Trophy + Handball has begun. Argentina, Brazil, Chile, Colombia, Guatemala, Nicaragua, Paraguay and Uruguay had their first day of competition. The selected teams will seek the title and one of the three available places for the World Cup in Egypt 2025.

Below, we share with you a summary of the day’s events.

GROUP A

Argentina faced the locals. The match was even during the first minutes. As the clock ticked down, Nicaragua could not sustain the rhythm of the match and started to make unforced errors, which were transformed into quick surges by the Albiceleste. In the second half, Argentina was much more convincing, managing to recover balls and with a quick counterattack was widening the difference in the scoreboard. Finally, the team coached by Rodolfo Jung won 50 to 24 against Nicaragua.

Benjamin Medina of Argentina was the top scorer with 8 goals. Oscar López scored 7 goals for the local team.

At the end of the day, the following played Uruguay vs Paraguay. They did not take advantage of each other at the beginning, but the difference came in the last minutes when Paraguay had many passing and reception errors that allowed the Uruguayans to score. Paraguay had many errors in passing and receiving that allowed the Uruguayans to score and go to the halftime and went to the break with a 16-11 lead. The sky-blue team started the second half without pressure, they played their game and scored goals without complications in every attack, they knew how to take advantage of every ball loss and be effective.

Uruguay scored its first win 43-21 against Paraguay. The scorer was Franco Carpinelli with 7 goals. On the Paraguayan side, Ian Vigo and José Barrios scored 4 goals each.

GROUP B

The opening match of the day featured Chile vs Guatemala. The first minutes of the match were evenly matched, but the Chileans managed to stay on top of the scoreboard. Guatemala forced the game with their pivot, which generated many turnovers that Chile converted into goals and went to the break with an 18-8 lead. In the second half, the team coached by Rodrigo Muñoz was more effective in the counterattack, with a solid defense and an offense that scored to widen the difference in the scoreboard. Chile won 34 to 19 against Guatemala. Vicente Álvarez scored 6 goals, while in Guatemala Florián Kreuzer also scored 6 goals.

Brazil and Colombia faced each other at midday in Nicaragua looking to take the two points. The tricolor team surprised Brazil and quickly took a 3-0 lead. But the Verdeamarela gradually became stronger in defense, which seriously and this seriously complicated Monica Ospina’s team. Colombia went 13 minutes without scoring and Brazil took advantage to extend their lead. In the second half, the continued, sealing a resounding 40-15 victory in favor of Brazil. Luis Silva was the scorer with 11 goals, Colombia’s Samuel Salazar scored 6 goals.
