The women’s competition at the South American Games has begun Santa Fe 2026. The Invencible Stadium hosted the first day of play, with Uruguay, Paraguay, and Argentina all securing victories.
A large crowd turned out to cheer on the teams at the venue inaugurated for the international tournament in the capital of Santa Fe.
Day 1 Summary
URUGUAY VS. PERU
In the opening game, Uruguay defeated Peru 51-9. The Uruguayan team capitalized on Peru’s mistakes and turnovers to launch quick counterattacks and take the lead. La Celeste went into halftime leading 23-4.
In overtime, the defensive solidity of Leonardo Puñales’s team allowed them to maintain their transition play and extend their lead until the end of the game.
Martina Barreiro, with 9 goals, was the top scorer of the match, while Peru’s center Camila Delgado scored 5 goals.

PARAGUAY VS. CHILE
In a thrilling match, Paraguay defeated Chile 21-19. The Paraguayan team got off to a better start, building a four-goal lead to go into halftime up 12-8.
In the second half, Chile rallied and managed to tie the score, but then went five minutes without scoring, which hurt their chances of securing the victory.
Fiorella Enríquez, with 6 goals, was Paraguay’s leading scorer, while Romina Ramírez and María Correa, with 4 goals each, were Chile’s top scorers.

ARGENTINA VS. COLOMBIA
To wrap up Day 1, Argentina defeated Colombia 34–11.
The Argentine national team took control of the match from the start and went into halftime with a 14-5 lead.
In the second half, they maintained their dominance and extended their lead to secure the victory. Mora Carballo, with 6 goals, was the top scorer of the match.
