Highlights from the Men’s Youth and Junior IHF Trophy held in Lima, Peru. The South American Phase took place from June 23 to 27 at the VIDENA complex.
It should be noted that the top two teams in each category advanced to the next continental phase.
Youth Category
The teams participating in the youth category were: Bolivia, Colombia, Ecuador, Peru, and Venezuela. After five days of intense competition, the standings were as follows:
1. Paraguay (qualified through the Continental Phase)
2. Colombia (qualified for the Continental Phase)
3. Peru
4. Venezuela
5. Bolivia
Junior Category
As for the participants in the junior category, teams from Bolivia, Colombia, Ecuador, French Guiana, Paraguay, Peru, and Venezuela were in attendance.
The tournament was held in conjunction with the Youth Tournament at the same VIDENA Sports Complex. The final standings were as follows:
1. Colombia (qualified for the Continental Phase)
2. French Guiana (qualified for the Continental Phase)
3. Paraguay
4. Peru
5. Venezuela
6. Ecuador
7. Bolivia

Alex Díaz, president of the Peruvian Handball Federation, noted that these types of competitions help foster the talent of the younger generations, raise the competitive level of the athletes, and continue to advance the goals of expanding participation, developing the sport, and raising its international profile.
“Lima hosted the IHF Men’s Trophy for the Youth and Junior categories, giving emerging countries the opportunity to participate.”
“The tournament qualifies the top two teams in each category for the continental championship; then, at that stage, the first-place team qualifies for the world championship in its category.”
He also thanked the Peruvian Olympic Committee for supporting and promoting sports, especially handball.
