River Plate returns to the Handball Libertadores

River Plate returns to the Handball Libertadores. The team coached by Pablo Robledo will be present from June 21 to 27 in Asunción.

Club Atlético River Plate was one of the founding clubs of the Federación Metropolitana de Balonmano (FeMeBal) and is currently the club with the most titles in the local history of Argentine handball.

Highlights of achievements

River men’s handball has a very strong tradition at both metropolitan and national level, having won more than 30 official national and metropolitan titles.

In addition, it was crowned Champion of the South American Club Tournament held in 1984.

Key Figures

There was a golden era for the team between 2003 and 2014, with outstanding players such as Diego Salaverry, Sebastián Belinski, Walter Gallardo and Pablo Sznitowsky wearing the jersey.

They currently have more than 200 male and female players federated in different categories. They have an integral development from infants to first division.

The senior team includes Uriel Doposo, Matías Lima and Bautista Gallado, who assured that the preparation is going very well, and that they are using the local tournament to get ready.

“Undoubtedly, I would like to highlight the human group we have in this team; in recent years we have always stood out for that, and also for our commitment”.

“River Plate is my home, I grew up at the club along with my brothers and my father (who works at the club), it’s not only a club where I go to train, but it has a very important meaning in my life.”

“While I do Handball, I go to the court every week and I’m constantly informed about what’s going on in the club.”

From Gallardo to Robledo

It should be recalled that Eduardo “Dady” Gallardo was the coach between 2003/2014, a period in which River Plate won most of the titles.

Dady was a youth player up to the senior team. Today, he continues to be linked to the institution as coordinator of the discipline. Gallardo also left his mark as a coach in his country’s national teams, Los Gladiadores and La Garra.

Coach Pablo Robledo took over the technical direction in mid-March and is accompanied by Nicolás Margari and Guillermo Cazón.

“This is a young team, with several juniors who are gradually improving in different aspects of the game, I think that in the future they will be a very good team”.

“With respect to the South-Central is a tournament that every club wants to play, to measure yourself against the best teams in each country is something important for the players, we are looking forward to play it and to do it in the best way”, said Robledo.

“Coaching at River, an institution with so much history in Argentine handball is a great challenge and something very important for me.” closed the coach.
