Preliminary Round Concludes at the Women’s Cadet World Championship currently being held in Agadir, Morocco, with Argentina and Paraguay participating.
The final matchday of the preliminary round took place this Tuesday; the South American teams will compete for their final standings next Thursday, October 22.
Paraguay Kicks Off with a Win
Last Friday, the Women’s Cadet World Championship began in Agadir, Morocco. The Paraguayan national team opened the tournament with a 35-38 loss to Belarus.
A few defensive mistakes left the Paraguayan team trailing by three goals. Aleksandryna Klipert was the top scorer of the match with 12 goals, while Tiziana Devaca scored 7 goals for the Guaraní team.
In the second game, Paraguay secured an important 44-41 victory over Guinea. Mayari Ramírez scored 12 goals and was named the game’s MVP.
In the final match of the preliminary round, Hungary defeated Paraguay 41-30. Tiziana Devaca was the game’s top scorer with 9 goals, followed by the Hungarians Katinka Kiss and Laura Tarjányi with 8 goals each.
This Thursday, Wilson Alfonso’s team will face the home team in the match to determine places 9 through 12. Morocco vs. Paraguay at 11:00 a.m.
Argentina and Three Losses
The team, led by Hernán Siso, suffered three losses. In their debut, Argentina lost to Switzerland 20-48; Sweden’s standout player was Nina Hasler with 9 goals, while Alma Albino and Lucía Maschietto each scored 4 goals for Argentina.
Then, in the second match, the Albiceleste was defeated 41-21 by Russia. Elizaveta Sapozhnikova was the top scorer with 9 goals, while Oriana Repetto scored 5 goals for Argentina.
On the final day of the preliminary round, Argentina lost to Egypt 22-36. Mariem Abdelhalim scored 9 goals for Egypt, while Tiziana Sica scored 6 goals for Argentina.
This Thursday, they will play the match to determine 13th through 16th place, aiming to secure the best possible position.
