Argentina Wins the Women’s Competition at the South American Games! In addition, along with Paraguay, it qualified for Lima 2027.
The final day of competition took place before a large crowd at the Invencible Stadium in Santa Fe. The battle for a spot on the podium was decided in the last match, with Argentina taking first place, Paraguay second, and Chile third.
Summary of Day 5
PERU VS. COLOMBIA
Colombia capped off its tournament with a 34-19 victory over Peru. The Colombian team dominated from the start and went into halftime with an 18-6 lead.
In the second half, Colombia maintained control of the game and extended its lead to secure the victory.
Daniela Giraldo was Colombia’s leading scorer with 9 goals, while Camila Delgado and Kyara Vidales each scored 5 goals for Peru.
URUGUAY VS. CHILE
Uruguay lost to Chile 25–19. In the first half, the Uruguayan team got off to a better start and built a four-goal lead, although Chile rallied late and cut the deficit to go into halftime down 12–9.
In the second half, Chile turned the game around with a strong offensive surge and took the lead at the 16-minute mark. From there, they maintained control and ultimately prevailed 25–19.
Paula Eastman was Uruguay’s top scorer with 5 goals. For Chile, Francisca Parra and Valeria Carrasco each scored 6 goals.
PARAGUAY VS. ARGENTINA
Paraguay and Argentina played to a 25-25 tie that had the stadium buzzing. With this result, Argentina claimed the gold, Paraguay the silver, and both teams secured their spots in the next Pan American Games, Lima 2027.
In the first half, the Paraguayan team closed out a 12-11 run in their favor.
During the second half, both teams traded the lead again and entered the final stretch tied.
Paraguay took a 25-24 lead with just seconds left, but Argentina tied the game at the buzzer to force a tie.
Fernanda Insfrán was the game’s leading scorer with 11 goals, while Malena Cavo scored 7 goals for Argentina.

Starting this Tuesday, September 22, the men’s tournament kicks off with Chile vs. Peru at 2:30 p.m., Uruguay vs. Brazil at 5:00 p.m., and Argentina vs. Paraguay to close out the day at 7:30 p.m.
