Universitario in the Libertadores of Handball

Universitario en la Libertadores del Handball, the “U”, is one of the historic sports clubs of the city of Córdoba and will be present in Asunción from June 21 to 27.

Handball has been growing steadily since 2012, when the institution started to play handball in both female and male divisions and compete in the Cordoba Federation league.

Highlights

The “U” was crowned champion in the Torneo Nacional “B” in 2019, it also obtained the third place in the Nacional “A” competition in 2024.

In terms of local competitions, the senior men’s team won the annual championship of the Cordoba Federation in 2022, 2023 and 2025, one of the most important recent milestones of the discipline in the institution.

Universitario brings together more than 150 male and female athletes.

In addition, they are the organizers of their own tournaments and activities, such as the traditional “Night Tournament” , which had its ninth edition in 2026.

Athletes with projection

Eric Stevent and Ariana Medeot, in addition to wearing the colors of Universitario, also wore the jersey of the local and national national team.

At present, the club’s outstanding and historical players are: Antonio Piatti, Francisco Zidarich, Fabricio Bena and Facundo Endrek.

Endrek stated that they started the year with clear objectives. Facundo arrived at the “U” in 2014.

“I started in Nueva Generación (Comodoro Rivadavia), where I spent a year and a half before going to study in Córdoba and where my love for handball began.”

“When I arrived at the ‘U’ I felt that same human warmth from the first day; today I continue to bet on the club and on the growth of this beautiful discipline.”

What does Universitario mean to Facundo Endrek?

It’s my second family. It sounds a bit cliché, but it’s true.

I arrived in Córdoba without knowing almost anyone and here I have formed an incredible group, made up of those who have already left the activity, those who have followed me since I started and those who are joining me.

I believe that the magic of team sports lies precisely in that, being part of a group of people who, beyond individual differences, pursue the same goal.

Technical Staff

Rodrigo Barrera is the coach of the men’s team, accompanied by Valeria Olmos and Lucas Castell. The goal is the SCA Club Championship.

“The preparation is going very well, little by little we are intensifying training and as we get closer to the tournament we are focusing more on the details,” said Barrera.said Barrera.

“We go with high expectations, this is the third consecutive year, we believe we already have the experience and we always prepare ourselves to play in the top positions.”

Finally, Rodrigo said that Universitario is his home, where he spends most of his day.

“We are part of a club that is 119 years old, we are the youngest discipline and having the support of the institution is positive.”
