Dorrego Handball in the South Central, the team coached by Juan Martin Bertaina will compete in the Club Championship in Asuncion from June 21 to 27.

The senior men’s team of Dorrego Handball is one of the most outstanding in Argentine handball. The club competes in the Metropolitan Handball Federation (FeMeBal) league and is based in Morón, Buenos Aires province.

History and growth

Handball school was founded in 1982 by Professor Eugenio Giménez, together with Fernando Capurro and Carlos Azulmendi. The club officially joined FeMeBal in 1985.

The men’s team went through ups and downs during the 1990s and 2000s, but since the 2010s it has managed to consolidate its position among the best metropolitan teams.

Main achievements

Among the most important titles and campaigns of the men’s team are: the metropolitan championship for the first time in 2018. Then they went on to be crowned champions of the Apertura and Clausura 2023 tournaments.

National Champion of the National Clubs A 2024 in Mar del Plata. Runner-up in National A 2025 after losing a very tight final against SAG Villa Ballester in extra time and champion of the Super 8 FeMeBal 2026, his first title in that competition.

As for its international participation, in 2025 it played for the first time in the South-Central American Club Tournament, reaching the semifinals and being the best placed Argentine team in the men’s tournament.

Second cycle

Since February of this year, Juan Martín Bertaina took over as coach of the senior team, and he assured that they are living the preparation for the competition with great enthusiasm.

What does it mean to be back in this institution?

It is my second cycle in the club, I am linked to many affections and very dear people. Dorrego is not only a place to play Handball, but also a school of life.

Style and presence, in recent years Dorrego has been characterized by having strong squads from its formative base.

Players with projection

The club has been growing a lot off the field as well. Some of the outstanding players of the team are Santiago Silva, Bautista Arrom, Enzo Ferrando.

Player Bautista Arrom said that the team has high expectations as this is the second consecutive year that they have participated in the SCA Tournament. “The idea is to surpass the position achieved in Chile.”

With respect to the change of coach he said: “… it always generates expectations but just as with Colo (former D) we had a lot of relationship, we know Juan Bertaina and he is an excellent worker and person, we trust him and the entire coaching staff a lot”.

“We take a lot of responsibility for the tournaments whether they are metropolitan, national or in this case the south central.”

“Without a doubt the months prior to the competition we try to adjust more especially the physical part to arrive prepared for a week where we play 6 games in 7 days,” commented Arrom.

Finally, Bautista expressed what Dorrego means to him: “… for me it is everything, it is my family, my friends, it is the place where I was always happy and where I always found a reason to be. For almost 20 years I have been sharing it with my friends and my brothers, it is my home”.

Dorrego Handball works with more than 20 male and female categories and is recognized for developing high-level youth players.
