Day 4 of the Handball SCA U14 Asunción 2024, was full of emotions.
The matches made the UENO Arena Cop and the Training Center vibrate, where the young promises of handball showed their talent and competitiveness in search of the championship.
We leave you a summary of the fourth day of competition.
SUMMARY DAY 4
Uruguay vs Brazil female
The day kicked off with a tremendous match between Uruguay and Brazil in the women’s game.
The first half was even, with Uruguay holding a two-goal lead for most of the match.
However, the Brazilians, led by their goalkeeper Alice de Moraes, who made outstanding saves and facilitated quick counterattacks, managed to even the score.
In the last 10 minutes, Jose Carlos Dos Santos’ team took control of the game and closed with a 22-19 victory, securing their second win in the tournament.
Isabel Bocage of Uruguay was the scorer of the match with 11 goals, while Sofia Toscano stood out for Brazil with 6 goals.
Argentina vs Uruguay male
Then it was the turn of Uruguay and Argentina, the Albicelestes achieved a resounding 42-14 victory. Argentina imposed its game from the beginning, with a solid defense that hindered the Uruguayan offenses and a 9-goal advantage at the end of the first half.
Uruguay’s goalkeeper, despite the loss, made key interventions that prevented the gap from widening even further. This victory keeps Rubén Busolin’s team undefeated, preparing to seek gold in their final match against Chile.
The game was characterized by Argentina’s constant ball stealing, with Demian Goñi being the scorer of the game with 8 goals.
Chile vs Brazil men
In the middle of the day on day 4, Chile defeated Brazil with a score of 33 to 24.
The first half was even, but Chile managed to establish a 5-goal lead before the break.
In the second half, the game became more closely contested, with Chile’s solid defense and the greater effectiveness of the wingers’ shots standing out. This win represents Chile’s third victory in the tournament, as it now prepares to face Argentina for first place.
Edgar Vassiliu of Chile was the scorer of the match, while for Brazil, Arthur Lima and Miguel Oliveira scored 7 goals each.
Chile vs Paraguay B female
It was Paraguay B’s turn to face Chile in the women’s category.
During the first half, both teams maintained an even score until the 19th minute, but the Paraguayan goalkeeper, Larissa Torres, made key interventions that thwarted the Chilean attacks. In the last 6 minutes of the first half, Paraguay B implemented a game of high pressure and fast transitions, extending the lead.
In the second half, they took advantage of the counter-attack and a more dynamic game, with effective cuts and shots from the end, which allowed them to take total control of the game and win 19-14. With this victory, the girls coached by Wilson Alfonso will play their last game for the bronze medal of the championship.
Mía González of Paraguay B was the scorer of the match with 5 goals.
On the Chilean side Agustina Menéndez was the top scorer with 3 goals.
Paraguay A vs Paraguay B male
At the end of the day, Paraguay A vs Paraguay B faced each other in the U14 SCA.
The first half was more balanced, with both teams alternating control of the ball and generating scoring opportunities.
The goalkeepers stood out with key saves, which kept the game close.
In the second half, Paraguay A took advantage of their speed in counterattacks and the effectiveness of their shots from the wing, gaining a decisive advantage and winning the match 30-22.
With this victory, Paraguay A prepares to face Brazil for the bronze medal. The scorers of the match were Matías Vallejos and Jonathan Benítez with 6 goals each.
Paraguay A vs Argentina female
Paraguay A reaffirmed its dominance in the U14 women’s championship by defeating Argentina 28-20 in a thrilling match that defined the gold medal of the tournament.
Both teams were undefeated, which made the match even more intense.
Argentina was looking to dethrone the Paraguayan champions, but after a tight start, Paraguay A gained a slight advantage.
After 15 minutes, their game became stronger, widening the difference.
In the second half, the team coached by Wilson Alfonso found less resistance in the Argentinean defense and controlled the rhythm.
Thus, Paraguay A was crowned for the third consecutive year as the champions of the category. Oriana Repetto was the top scorer of the match with 9 goals and for Paraguay A Tiziana Devaca and Verónica Fanego scored 8 goals each.
