Argentina left the World Cup in 20th position

Argentina left the World Cup in 20th place, losing in their group to the Netherlands and the Czech Republic and beating Congo, a victory that allowed them to advance to the Main Round.

In the Main Round, they lost to Spain and Brazil, and they said goodbye to the tournament with a win against Ukraine. The team coached by Eduardo Gallardo ended the tournament in 20th place in the World Cup played in Denmark, Norway and Sweden.

On the first day of Group H, La Garra kicked off its 12th participation in the World Cup with a defeat against the Netherlands, the team that had been champions in 2019.

First half

During the first half, the Argentines managed to reach the 6 meters, but the lack of effectiveness would be decisive against a team that had no problems in taking advantage of the scoring opportunities, 14-20 closed the first half, in favor of the Netherlands.

Second half

In the second half, the Europeans did not slow down the pace and by means of outside shots and counterattacks, they showed superiority and widened the difference, ending the game 26-41.

Then against the Czech Republic, Argentina had an even start keeping the scoreboard under a goal-to-goal tone, but ended up conceding in the final stretch of the first half and went to the break down by 6 goals. This difference was maintained in the second half and ended with a score of 31-22.

The team coached by Dady Gallardo, won 31-26 against the African team. With this result, the Albicelestes finished third in Group H, qualifying to the next phase of the tournament, without carrying over points.

In the Main Round, Argentina faced Spain, in a tremendous match that ended one goal up for the Albicelestes in the first half, but the Argentine team was unable to defeat the current runners-up and lost 23-30.

Brazil vs Argentina

The South American derby was Argentina’s fifth appearance at the World Cup, but despite their best efforts, they were unable to improve on the result of their last match against Brazil in the final of the Pan American Games.

Argentina lost 19-33 to a solid Brazilian team. In the third and final day of the Main Round, they sealed a 25-20 victory over Ukraine and put an end to their participation in the 26th World Cup.

Statements

Manuela Pizzo, player of the Argentine national team:

“As a group, I think it was a very good World Cup. Although we got the result we wanted, which was to advance to the Main Round and climb more positions, we were in a very difficult group, where two of them made it to the quarterfinals. This is what gives us experience and allows us to continue growing”.
