Brazil secures podium places at the 2019 World Beach Games. The Brazilians claimed two podium places, maintaining their dominance since 2006 in all the events in which they competed.
The men’s team won their fourth championship with the gold medal, whilst the women’s team secured a place on the podium with the bronze medal.
Is men’s team beat Oman and the United States 2-0, whilst the women also defeated Argentina and the United States 2-0.
In the second round, the women’s team secured two further victories, this time against Tunisia and Hungary; and the men suffered their only defeat against Denmark 2-0 but managed to bounce back against Australia, winning 2-0.
The final round of the group stage, the women’s team had already qualified for the quarter-finals, beating Denmark and finishing top of the group. The men beat Sweden 2-0 and also secured a place in the quarter-finals.
Brazil in the World Beach Games finals
The teams progressed to the knockout stage, aiming to repeat the podium finishes they achieved in 2017 in Poland, playing three matches each, leading up to the gold medal match for the men’s team and the bronze medal match for the women’s team.
In the quarter-finals, both teams won: Brazil 2–1 Croatia (men) and Brazil 2–0 Poland (women).
The men’s team went on to secure two further victories, beating Qatar 2–1 in the semi-finals and Spain in the final.
Meanwhile, the women’s team suffered their only defeat in the semi-finals, losing 2-1 to Denmark, and went on to play the third-place play-off, beating Vietnam 2-0 to claim the bronze medal.
