Semifinalists confirmed in the SCA of Clubs

Semifinalists confirmed in the SCA of Clubs. Fourth day of competition of the Handball Libertadores that takes place at the National Stadium Park in the Chilean capital.

The fourth day of the tournament featured six exciting matches, and the semifinalists were also announced.

Summary of the day’s competition:

Leonas vs Torrense (20-19)

First victory of the Leonas team, beating the Brazilian team of Torrense by the minimum difference.

The girls coached by Felipe Caliri, had a good first half closing the score 13-10. In the second half, Torrense improved their attack but the defense of Leonas was strong, despite some errors in their shots the locals stayed up on the scoreboard.

Leonas won 20-19, players Javiera Laferte and Maura Álvarez scored 5 goals, and Álvarez was elected MVP of the game.

Cerro Porteño vs Scuola Italiana (20-27)

In the second match of the day there was a duel between Paraguayan and Uruguayan players.

Cerro Porteño took advantage of some defensive errors by Scuola in the beginning of the game, which allowed them to go to the break 14-12.

Scuola came out determined to take the game in the second half. They found the spaces in the Paraguayan defense and strengthened their attack.

Scuola won 27-20, the scorer of the match was Julieta Iturriaga with 7 goals. In addition, Magdalena Guichón was elected the MVP of the match.

Results of the quarterfinals

Layva vs Ovalle (29-18)

Club Layva of Uruguay reached the semifinals, defeating local team Ovalle 29-18.

The Uruguayans overcame Ovalle without complications from the beginning of the game. The first period was 15-8 and the difference widened in the second half closing the score 29-18.

Ovalle was erratic in its counterattacks, failed in its shots and did not know how to block the game proposed by its rival.

Leonardo Puñales’ team took advantage of the spaces and had several quick starts, which allowed them to advance to the semifinals.

Dorrego vs River Plate (20-28)

Two teams from Argentina faced each other in the semifinal, which was the fourth match of the day.

With an even first half, Dorrego and River went to the break 14-15 in favor of those coached by Alejandro Sznitowski.

River stood up in defense and blocked its rival’s attack in the second half, thus extending the advantage and taking the victory by 28-20.

This result qualified River Plate to the semifinals and will play Layva. The MVP of the match and scorer was Maira Carletti.

FMO/Portuguese vs Pinheiros (27-28)

A vibrant match was played by the Brazilian teams for the pass to the semifinals of the SCA Club Handball championship being held in Santiago de Chile.

Pinheiros rebounded after the previous day’s loss to Sedalo. They went out to the court determined to win the first half and closed a partial 9-13.

In the second half, there were no advantages, quick plays by both teams, precise counterattacks and a lot of friction was what they gave us in 30 minutes where they tied 24-24.

Finally, two five-minute overtime periods were played and Pinheiros won by the minimum difference 28-27.

The top scorer of the match was Tatita Correia of FMO/Portuguese with 8 goals. For Pinheiros Lorena Loyane scored 7 goals and goalkeeper Rayane Santos was elected MVP.

Sedalo Jockey Club (32-17)

Last match of the day with a victory for Sedalo, which is still undefeated in the championship. In the quarterfinals they overcame Jockey Club Córdoba without difficulties.

In the first half Sedalo closed a partial in their favor 17-11. In the second half, Sedalo stretched the difference in the scoreboard. They were strong in defense and took advantage of Jockey’s mistakes to score.

Sedalo beat their Argentinean counterparts 32-17 to reach the semifinals. The scorers of the match with 6 goals each were Eugenia Mellano of Jockey and Karin Frelier of Sedalo.

Programming

Follow the matches this Thursday, May 15, starting at 10:00 a.m. with the game between Torrense vs Cerro Porteño, then at 12:00 p.m. Scuola vs Leonas. From 2:00 p.m. the local Ovalle team will play against Dorrego and FMO/Portuguese will face Jockey Club Cordoba.

Meanwhile, the semifinals will be played from 6:00 p.m., Layva vs River Plate and at 8:00 p.m. Pinheiros vs Sedalo.
