Second day in the SCA Club Handball

The second day of the SCA Club Handball was over. The competition was vibrant and full of emotions, the teams of Dorrego, Sedalo, Jockey Club and Layva took the victories.

SUMMARY OF THE DAY’S COMPETITION:

Dorrego vs Torrense (30-22)

An even first half, Dorrego managed to make a difference in the final minutes and went to the break 12-9.

In the second half, despite the Brazilian team’s attempts, they were unable to get closer to the scoreboard. In the end, the Argentine team took the victory.

“There were nerves from all of us, in my case it was my first experience. We are very happy and eager to keep on winning”, said Valentina Coronel, Dorrego’s goalkeeper.

Sedalo vs Scuola (25-23)

Both teams played an emotionally charged match, which was defined in the last minutes.

The Argentinean team started winning the match and managed to score a difference of 3 goals. However, the Uruguayans reacted and turned the score around. Scuola went to the break leading 18-16.

During the beginning of the second half, ball losses and mistakes in the definitions were reflected in 7 minutes without conversions.

Due to a great defensive performance Sedalo managed to take the lead and win the match 25-23.

“We knew it was a game that we were going to turn it around, that we could win it. We were able to win the game with neatness, goal, defense and then attacking,” said the star of the match Virginia Catera.

With two consecutive victories, Sedalo secured its ticket to the quarterfinals.

Jockey Club vs Cerro Porteño (24-19)

In a very physical game, both teams were strong on defense. Few goals were scored at the beginning of the first half, but as the minutes went by, Jockey Club’s lead became clearer and clearer.

Las Hípicas were superior in the second half, beating Cerro Porteño 24-19. Valeria Quiñonez of Cerro Porteño was the scorer of the match with 8 goals, while on the Jockey side Eugenia Mellano scored 7 goals.

“We were able to solve the defense, which was the strength of the match. We never relaxed and that made us play with intensity from the first minute”, said player Eugenia Mellano.

Layva vs Leonas (25-16)

At the end of the day, Layva was able to take advantage of some ball handling errors by its rival and went to the locker room 11-7.

The team coached by Leonardo Puñales did not lower the intensity in the second half. Leonas was 8 minutes without being able to convert, which allowed the Uruguayan team to stretch the difference and get their first victory by 25-16.

At the end of the meeting goalkeeper Agustina Modernell said:

“We are very happy for the victory, we were looking for it and we prepared a lot, I think the match went according to what we had planned. Our goal is to be as high as possible in the table and if we can be on the podium”.
