This Tuesday Jockey Club Córdoba (Argentina) and Esporte Clube Pinheiros (Brazil) opened the first date of the most important club championship in South and Central America. The Brazilian team achieved an important victory, winning 27-18.
Pinheiros opened the scoring but then the first 30 minutes were very even, as both teams managed to be strong defensively. In order to convert, they had to work on long attacks and wait for spaces to be created. After 25 minutes Pinheiros managed to tie the score at 10, after two errors by the Equestrian defense. In the end, another mistake by Jockey’s defense and a touchdown for the Brazilians closed the first half 11-12 in favor of Pinheiros.
In the second half, the defending champions showed their experience with a 6-0 run. The defense and counterattack, together with the great performance of goalkeeper Jessica Oliveira, were the key for the team from São Paulo to make the difference in the scoreboard. It was 9 minutes before Jockey Club managed to score again. It was very difficult to reverse the situation for the Cordobesas, who nevertheless played a great game in their debut.
Irina Olmos, player number 5 of Jockey Club Córdoba, was chosen as the MVP.

Jessica Oliveira, player of Esporte Clube Pinheiros: “It was a very difficult first half, we suffered a bit even though we were defending well. In the second half we managed to open the game and we were able to hold on until the end. Now we have to prepare ourselves for the next game, which will be very complicated”.
Irina Olmos, player of Jockey Club Córdoba: “We started very well, playing as equals the whole first half. In the beginning of the second half we lost a little bit, but we were able to keep the difference. We came here to look for experience”.
