The Chilean team is the fourth classified for Egypt 2021

The wait is definitely over. Today we received the news that the IHF Council in a meeting on November 6, decided to accept the proposal of the South and Central American Handball Confederation due to the impossibility of being able to carry out the playoff called The Last Chance Uruguay 2020 derived from the infections by COVID-19 and not obtaining authorization to leave their countries of the national teams of Colombia and Paraguay respectively.

Faced with this delicate situation, the SCAHC Council met in an urgent and extraordinary manner for October 29 to send a request to the IHF Council in order to assign the fourth place in dispute directly to the selected one with the best updated ranking in South and Central America, in this case Chile, due to the results obtained in the Maringá Qualifier, to which was added the silver medal at the Pan American Games in Lima 20219, its position obtained in the last IHF Senior Men’s World Cup and having classified continuously and uninterruptedly to these Tournaments since 2011.

For all these reasons, the IHF Council decided to take up the SCAHC proposal, which is why on January 13 the eyes of the entire Handball Planet will finally be on the Chilean team when the 2021 Egypt Senior Men’s IHF World Cup opens. facing the local, Egypt, where all America will support our fourth representative as well as those selected from Argentina, Brazil and Uruguay, wishing everyone the best possible result.

To

South and Central America Handball Confederation (SCAHC)

Mr Marcel Mancilla Bravo, President

 Dear President,

Reference is made to your letter dated 29 October 2020 regarding the cancellation of the Last Chance Tournament in Uruguay, which was planned to serve as a qualification event for the 2021 Men’s World Championship for the last open place of SCAHC, due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

Your request to nominate a representative of SCAHC for the 2021 Men’s World Championship due to the extraordinary situation was presented to the IHF Council. Following the proposal of the SCAHC Council, the IHF Council decided on 6 November 2020 to nominate Chile as fourth representative of SCAHC for the 2021 Men’s World Championship, taking into consideration the results of the SCAHC qualification event held in Brazil in January 2020 (Chile ranked fourth behind Argentina, Brazil and Uruguay).

We thank you in advance for your consideration and look forward to a successful participation of Chile in the 2021 Men’s World Championship in Egypt.
