The Women’s Intercontinental Phase of the IHF Trophy will be held from 7 to 11 April 2026. The competition brings together 10 teams in two age categories: Youth (U-17) and Junior (U-19).
The championship awards berths to the IHF Women’s Junior and Youth World Championships at stake.
IHF Intercontinental Trophy
The 2024 edition held in Tashkent, Uzbekistan, crowned two champions. In the Junior category, Uzbekistan, while in the Youth category, it was Kosovo.
Both competitions adopt similar formats to determine their respective champions. With a direct group format, the five participating nations face each other once, and the final standings directly determine the winner, with no final or bronze medal match.
Participants
In the Junior competition will participate Bulgaria, Canada, Colombia, Guinea and Uzbekistan, while in the Youth competition Bulgaria, Canada, Guinea, Uzbekistan and Venezuela will compete. Venezuela.
The winning teams of the tournaments will obtain direct qualification to the Women’s World Cup of the category.
In the Junior competition, both Canada and Guinea have already qualified for the World Championship, which will be held in Jinzhong, People’s Republic of China, from June 24 to July 5, 2026.
Then, if either of these two teams wins the Intercontinental Phase, their place will be transferred to the next highest-ranked team in their continental competition that has not yet qualified.
In the Youth tournament, the picture is somewhat broader: Canada, Guinea and Uzbekistan have already qualified for the World Championship, to be held in Romania from July 29 to August 9, 2026.
Therefore, should any of these three teams win the title, the qualifying berth will also be transferred to the next eligible team in the continental competition.
