Women in Handball: Gabriela Müller, Mónica Ospina y Johana Arevalo

Women in Handball: Gabriela Müller, Mónica Ospina and Johana Arevalo. Voices of protagonists who inspire and delight us with their talent inside and outside the 40×20.

Handball is a sport that has grown remarkably in the Americas thanks to the dedication of many women who every day leave their mark on and off the court.

Among them are figures who, from different roles and countries, have contributed to the development and visibility of this sport.

Unlimited projection

In this month of March, Gabriela Müller, player of the Chilean national team, spoke about the meaning of 8M:

“For me, it’s a day to recognize all that women have accomplished over time.

More than a celebration, I feel that it is a moment to reflect, thank, highlight the strength and value the contribution of women in different fields”.

Her sisters are her women of reference. “I’ve always seen them as an example of hard work and getting ahead.”

“Each one has their own way of dealing with things, but in common they have in common that they are very strong and are always there when you need them.”

“For me they have been super important, because many times they have not only been sisters, but also friends and support in different stages of my life.”

“From them I admire very much how they have been building their path and the way they face the day-to-day challenges.”

If you had to describe the woman in one word, what would it be? “Strength.”Müller closed.

Colombian leader

Monica Ospina is coach of the Colombian Junior Women’s National Team, and she also gave us her opinion and her experience of 8M.

“Women’s Day is a time to recognize the strength, struggle and resilience of all women who have led the way in society and also in sport.”
“It is to remember that every female achievement is the result of effort, courage and perseverance. As a handball coach, it also means continuing to foster spaces where women can grow, compete and lead.”
His female referent is his mother.
“She represents for me the true meaning of resilience: a strong, hard-working woman full of values, who with her example taught me to never give up and to face every challenge with courage.”
If you had to describe the woman in one word, what would it be: “Resilient”said Opsina, adding:
“Because women have the ability to pick themselves up, adapt and move forward, even in the most difficult times.”

A Guatemalan woman with a strong foothold

Lastly, Johana Arevalo, coach of the Guatemalan youth and junior women’s national teams, gave us her testimony regarding 8M.

“It is a day where we should celebrate our struggles and achievements, and be proud of ourselves.”

“My mother, Delia Rosa Perez, is my reference, she is a great woman in all the best for my life.”

In closing, if I had to describe the woman in one word, what would it be: “Brave.”.
