Paraguay and Uruguay closed their participation in the Women’s Handball World Cup being played in the Netherlands / Germany 2025.
The participation of the Paraguayan and Uruguayan women’s national teams in the 2025 edition of the World Adult Women’s Handball Championship came to an end, with a closing that highlights the effort, the struggle and the international experience of both delegations.
Paraguay: three wins and one loss
Paraguay arrived at the World Cup after winning its third consecutive ticket to the tournament.
In its last match for the Copa Presidente, the “Albirroja” lost to Croatia 17-30. Meanwhile, it achieved two victories, 33-20 against Iran and 23-20 against its Uruguayan counterpart.
The Paraguayan women closed the tournament with an important victory over Egypt 30.28. Paraguay demonstrated their progression and left a message of motivation to continue growing in future tournaments.
Uruguay: a triumphant farewell
The sky-blue team, which had faced tough opponents in the initial phase of the World Cup, closed this experience with an outstanding victory over Cuba 33-27.
In the President’s Cup, they suffered two defeats, to Paraguay and then to Croatia 34-25, but recovered against Iran, winning 27-16.
The Uruguayan women showed a good level and gained international exposure with the possibility of evaluating strengths and areas for improvement.
Beyond the results: what this World Cup represents

It was Paraguay’s third consecutive world championship appearance, consolidating Guarani women’s handball. It placed 27th in the ranking, achieving its best position ever.

Meanwhile, Uruguay returned to the world championship after a long period of absence, and its participation represents continuity in the effort to remain among the elite of world handball. He closed in 29th place.
Both teams gained in visibility, collective experience and competitiveness, key elements for strengthening grassroots sport, attracting young players and continuing to push for sustained growth in the region.
