South America at the World Cup: Argentina, Brazil, Paraguay and Uruguay. The 27th edition kicked off on November 26 in the Netherlands and Germany.
This tournament brings together 32 teams from all over the world, including four South American teams: Argentina, Brazil, Paraguay and Uruguay.
Argentina, “La Garra” goes for the feat
The team coached by Mariano Muñoz, made its debut this Friday against one of the hosts, the Netherlands, and lost 32-25.
The squad has participated in 12 consecutive matches since 2003. In this World Cup it is part of group E, where it played against the Netherlands, and it has to play against Austria next Sunday at 14.00 and Egypt to close the phase on Tuesday, December 2 at 14.00.
With key players such as Elke Karsten, Argentina’s goal is to advance beyond the preliminary round and seek to climb positions with respect to previous editions.

Brazil, the South American power with World Cup history
The Brazilians are now in their 16th consecutive World Cup, consolidating their dominance in the region.
Traditionally a power in the continent, Brazil was already world champion in 2013. Their presence in this edition ratifies their ambition to appear again in decisive instances, supported by their international experience.
They started with an important victory in Group G against Cuba 41-20, player Jessica Quintino was elected the MVP of the match.
Finally, they will also face the Czech Republic this Saturday at 2 p.m. and close on Monday at 4:30 p.m. against Sweden.

Paraguay seeks to consolidate its position among the best in the world
Paraguay qualified after advancing from the South American playoffs, becoming one of the 32 participating teams.
This will be their sixth participation in an Adult Women’s World Cup, after having consolidated their position in regional competitions.
For the Guarani national team in the world context, their participation represents a real challenge and an opportunity to gain experience at the international level.
They have two defeats, losing to Spain 26-17 and losing to Montenegro 34-25. It remains to close the Group D phase with the Faroe Islands on Sunday at 14.00 hours.
Uruguay, back after 14 years
Uruguay returns to the Women’s Adult World Cup after 14 years of absence, its last participation having been in 2011.
Their qualification came thanks to the third place obtained in the South Central American tournament held in November 2024 in Niteroi.
This return represents a milestone for Uruguayan handball and an option for growth; its presence offers valuable international exposure for its players.
The Charrúas have two defeats, they lost to Serbia 31-19 but goalkeeper Agustina Modernell was elected MVP. Then they lost to Germany 12-38 in Group C.

They finish the preliminary phase against Iceland on Sunday at 11:30 am.
What’s coming and what’s at stake. South America at the World Cup
Once the preliminary phase is over, the teams that qualify for the Main Round and those that will play in the president cup will be defined.
The South American teams once again face the challenge of competing on European stages against historic handball powers.
For Argentina, Brazil, Paraguay and Uruguay, this World Cup is not only a competitive test, but also a platform for visibility, collective growth and strengthening of women’s handball in the region.
