Uruguay has defined its squad for the Women’s World Cup to be held from November 26 to December 14 in the Netherlands and Germany 2025.
The Uruguayan Handball Federation announced the official squad that will compete in the world championship starting on November 26.
After 14 years of absence and after winning the bronze medal at the South Central qualifying tournament held in November in Niteroi 2024, the Uruguayan national team will be present at the World Cup.
Group and preliminary phase
The Uruguayan women are in Group C along with Serbia, Germany and Iceland. The matches in the preliminary phase will be played at the Porsch Arena in the German city of Stuttgart.
On November 26 they play against the Serbians, then on November 28 against the Germans and close the phase with Iceland on November 30.
The top three finishers from each group advance to the second phase, which will be played in Rotterdam, Netherlands, and Dortmund, Germany, with two groups in each city.
The quarterfinals will also be played there, while the semifinals and final will be played in the Dutch city of Rotterdam.

Uruguayan squad
Meanwhile, Leonardo Puñales, coach of the selected team confirmed the squad with six players from Club Layva (Champion of the Handball Libertadores 2025), five from Goes, two from Club Náutico.
In addition, a representative from Scuola Italiana, one from the German School, and a player who currently plays for Araraquara in Brazil.
The players called up are: Agustina Modernell, Viviana Hergatacorzian, Catalina Tournier, Martina Campos, Camila Barreiro, Martina Barreiro.
Sabrina Grieco, Viviana Ferrari, Camila Bianco, Julieta Pessina, Maite Pessina, Paula Eastman, Rosina González, Leticia Schinca, Sabrina Golda and Magdalena Guichón.
It should be noted that Uruguay has participated in five World Cups in its history in the women’s category.
Germany 1997 (24th), then in Italy 2001 (23rd), Croatia 2003 (24th), Russia 2005 (23rd) and the last presence dates back to Brazil 2011 (20th).
