“The Camp for the detection of young referees and technical delegates developed in this first week as planned. There was an atmosphere of learning, growth and demands that went on match after match”, Thedy Adjemian emphasized.

In addition, he added that daily meetings were held where the refereeing of each team was analyzed in detail according to the updated IHF guidelines.

“We have referee couples from Argentina, Brazil, Chile, Paraguay and Uruguay and also delegates from Chile, Paraguay and Ecuador.”

“In this Camp we gave continuity to the Woman Referee and Delegates Project”.

There were two female teams, one Brazilian and one Paraguayan; they are countries that are giving great importance to the role of women in refereeing. There were also delegates from Chile and Paraguay”.

Thedy emphasized that they need more referee couples, both men and women.

“We are in the process of developing a system of arbitration licenses that we will be reporting on in the coming months.”

Finally, he said that COSCABAL’s support enabled them to work intensively throughout the week.

“The results were positive and we are convinced that with more detection camps we will be able to expand the staff of referees and delegates and thus be able to have the replacement that we have been longing for some time”.

Delegates summoned

The staff of delegates who took part in the Camp are: Gabriela Mancilla and Macarena Vásquez from Chile; José Medranda from Ecuador; José Galeano and Karen Candia from Paraguay.

Women delegates

Technical delegate Macarena Vásquez of Chile commented on the experience of being part of the Camp.

“I came to the tournament looking for concrete tools for my development.”

“The most valuable thing is the dynamic of learning and exchanging ideas and analyzing criteria with instructors of great international trajectory”.

“We saw real game situations and discussed them from a technical perspective. Instead of just taking theory with me, here the learning cycle is greatly accelerated.”

“I was able to build knowledge with the instructors in real time, refine decision making and gain a confidence that would be impossible to obtain otherwise.”

Macarena affirmed that working in an international competition that is developed under an organizational standard forces you to unify criteria and speak a common handball ‘language’.

“At the local level, sometimes you focus on your own reality, but here we interact with delegates and arbitrators from all over the region, sharing challenges and solutions under that same standard.”

Regarding the role of women as technical delegates, Macarena clarifies that the position has no gender; the technical function is fulfilled with the same rigor and professionalism as any colleague.

She also remarked, “there is a growing presence in these roles and it is a sign that, as a sport, we are moving with ever firmer steps towards greater gender equity.”

“It is essential to recognize and appreciate the proactive work that COSCABAL is doing. The existence of this camp and the training opportunities it provided us is the best demonstration of that commitment.”

Women’s arbitration

Natany Valentim and Pamela Ferreira are referees from Brazil, both agree that reaching the Camp is a first goal achieved.

“Together we worked to get here, we refereed a lot of games, we prepared and trained, we knew it was an important competition.”

“The experience is very positive, we learned with the feedback from each of the delegates and their teaching has given us tools to continue improving in our performance”, said Natany.

Pamela Ferreira highlighted the knowledge acquired with referees of other nationalities.

“Living with others broadens our vision of the game, the exchange enriches our technique and our human side. The bonds and friendships that we consolidate are important for the process to be completed in the best way”.

Chilean representation

Matías Solís and Diego Barros are referees from Chile. Matías assures that the experience was totally enriching due to the opportunity to have international delegates and observers.

Diego Barros commented that being in an international tournament is a new experience for them as a refereeing duo. “It has been a demanding preparation work to live up to what was asked.”

“The Camp is very well organized and focused on the development of referees from different countries. We have international referees who are at the top of world handball”.

“It has been very enriching to receive advice and corrections from the observers.

“Having a Referee Support like Germán Araujo from Uruguay, who gave us the confidence we needed to enter the field and referee the different matches”.
