Luciano Zabala delegate at COSCABAL and at the world championships. Zabala works with the refereeing staff in COSCABAL and since a little more than a year ago he joined the IHF as technical delegate.
A delegate trained in COSCABAL through training courses who knew how to take advantage of the opportunities provided by the Chief Referee, Thedy Adjemian; today he represents us in the world championships.
A year of growth
Undoubtedly, Luciano Zabala’s last year as technical delegate has been on the rise. He has made 4 appearances in IHF World Cup competitions.
In 2024, she was at the Junior Women’s World Cup held in North Macedonia from June 19-30. Then, she participated in the Junior Women’s World Cup held in the People’s Republic of China from August 14 to 25, 2024.
From January 14 to February 2, 2025, he was one of the delegates at the Men’s Adult World Cup held in Croatia, Denmark and Norway.
Last June Zabala was part of the staff of technical delegates at the Junior Men’s World Championship held in Poland from June 18 to 29.
“It is a unique experience, you are with the best athletes of our sport and it is also a great responsibility, I not only represent my country (Argentina) but also a whole continent.”
“In the last World Cup I had my best performance, I was able to integrate the table of the bronze medal match between Faroe Islands vs Sweden and it was amazing.”
Work and concentration
“My task as technical delegate in the COSCABAL tournaments and in the world championships is very similar,” said Luciano Zabala.said Luciano Zabala.
However, he remarked that he has not served as an official in World Cup events. “In the world championships there are 3 positions at the table: time keeper, core keeper and the official. I have served as time keeper or core keeper”.
On the other hand, Zabala, in COSCABAL tournaments, does exercise the role of official. “In the COSCABAL championships I work as a match official, which is the highest authority. The tasks are practically the same, we are like a support for the referees especially in the behavior and control of the players who are on the bench and the coaches. In addition, we supervise other regulatory issues such as changes”.
He also stated that during the world competitions administrative tasks are added, “For example, prior to the game we have a meeting with the teams where they confirm the players who will participate.
Finally, he highlighted what he feels emotionally and remarked the difference, when he is at the World Cups. “… the pressure and adrenaline is different because of the nerves, the teams playing, the environment and the stadiums…”.
