Bronze for Paraguay in Asu 2025, the local team managed to get on the podium after beating Uruguay 20-18 in overtime.
An intense match full of emotions was experienced at the SND Arena, the National Sports Secretariat in the Paraguayan capital where the II Junior Pan American Games are being held.
Even first half
Milagros Samaniego was in charge of opening the scoreboard for Paraguay at 4 minutes and 30 seconds into the game, after 5 minutes came the goal by Uruguay’s Martina Campos.
The Guarani defense blocked the Uruguayan offense in the first 15 minutes, but the goal posts and the goalkeeper Anna Macke of Paraguay’s goal prevented the Uruguayan team from getting on the scoreboard.
Parity was maintained in the game during the first stage which closed with a partial 9-6 in favor of the locals with a 50% of effectiveness and 9 conversions in 18 shots.
Tied second half
In the second half, the team led by Leonardo Puñales came out to make the difference in the offense, with goals from captain Martina Campos and Paulina Balseiro, tying the score 10-10.
Campos of Uruguay was the main protagonist of her team, scoring 9 goals with a 43% efficiency in her shots.
The game ended tied 16-16, which led to an overtime of two periods of 5 minutes each. The intensity of the game during the extra time plus the encouragement of the crowd that filled the stadium made it a real party.
Paraguay won 20-18 to take third place and the bronze medal.
