Taubaté is crowned two-time champion of the Handball Libertadores. With an impassable defense and a monumental Lucas Santos, the Brazilian team won 22-20 in Santiago and sealed its qualification to the IHF Club World Championship.
In a vibrant final played at the National Stadium Park in Santiago, Taubaté revalidated its continental title and was crowned two-time champion of the SCA 2025 Handball Libertadores after beating its classic rival Pinheiros Pinheiros by a tight 22-20.
Andre Silva’s team showed tactical solidity and mettle at key moments, led by a superlative performance by the goalkeeper Lucas SantosSantos, who was named MVP of the match.
Taubaté sets the pace and takes the lead
Right from the start, Taubaté printed intensity in attack and defensive order, dominating the rhythm of the game and neutralizing Pinheiros’ first offenses. Despite a brief comeback by Alex Aprile’s team in the first ten minutes – when they took a 4-3 lead after a series of recoveries and quick goals – the defending champions reacted with skill.
A 5-0 run led by Eduardo Silva and Guilherme Torriani put Taubaté back in control, which went into halftime with a 14-8 lead. 14-8The lead was supported by a compact and effective 6:0 defense.

Second half: defensive resistance and closing with character
In the second half, the intensity increased. Pinheiros adjusted its tactical approach alternating between 5:1 and 6:0 defenses to break Taubate’s offensive flow and force errors in ball circulation.
The strategy bore partial fruit, as they managed to pull within two goals in the final minutes. However, the figure of Lucas Santos emerged with key saves, including a decisive intervention in the last minute that thwarted the equalizer.
The final goal came from the hand of Eduardo Silvawho sealed the result with 30 seconds left with a powerful shot from nine meters, decreed the final 22-20 and unleashed the celebration of the Taubate bench.
This title not only reaffirms Taubaté’s regional dominance, but also assures them a place in the 2025 IHF World IHF Club World Cup 2025, where they will again represent South America as continental champions.where they will once again represent South America as continental champions.
