COSCABAL referees at the World Cup, two Argentine and one Uruguayan pair were the representatives at the Men’s Handball World Championship.
The competition, which took place in Croatia, Denmark and Norway and brought together the best teams in the world, recently came to an end.
Feelings and commitment of the referee
“It was an experience that allows us to continue to grow as a refereeing duo and reaffirm our commitment to continuous improvement.”
“They marked us that we noticed the evolution in terms of the technical concepts that they had marked us previously.”
“We are happy with our performance, but we are also aware that there are always areas where we can continue to work to evolve and keep up with the demands of the international level.”
The word of Mariana García who together with María Inés Paolantoni from Argentina were in the city of Poreč, Croatia.
They refereed preliminary round matches and then the Copa Presidente. Both returned with a very positive feeling.
“At the end of each competition, we take time to take stock together, analyzing what we did well and where we can continue to improve.”
“We believe that this process is fundamental to our growth, both individually and as a team, and also to bring the best to our Association.”
Garcia assured that they will continue to work with commitment and dedication to advance in their arbitration career.
Experience and work
Another of Argentina’s duos that were at the World Cup were Sebastián Lenci and Julián López Grillo. The city of Herning, Denmark was the venue where they played.
“With Julian we came back with a good feeling. We managed good level and even matches between Europeans. “said Lenci.
“The matches where Denmark played were beautiful because of the crowd, full courts”.
“We had a good tournament and the observations were in line with the feelings we had on the field.”
“As a balance, our goal was to lead the Main Round and we achieved it. This is our fifth adult men’s world championship with Julian, it has been a very positive tournament.”
Debut in seniors
The Uruguayan duo Mathias Sosa and Cristian Lemes made their debut in the Adult World Cup. They were refereeing in Croatia in the cities of Zagreb, Poreč and Varazdin.
“We brought back a nice and good feeling, we think we did an acceptable job, but there is a lot of room for improvement.”
“The level of play and competition is different. It’s very different from what we are used to refereeing, such as the local league or in the SCAs. It requires another level of preparation.”
Sosa also commented that once their participation is over, they take a few days without contacting each other (Sosa – Lemes). After a few days they make a personal balance and as a referee duo to continue working.

Sebastián Lenci and Julián López Grillo
Czech Republic vs Switzerland, Denmark vs Italy, Denmark vs Switzerland and Germany vs Tunisia.
Mathias Sosa and Cristian Lemes
Netherlands vs Guinea, Cape Verde vs Slovenia, Poland vs Algeria, USA vs Cuba, Algeria vs Kuwait and Algeria vs Bahrain.
