Brazil beats Chile in the second round

The Main Round of the 29th edition of the Men’s Handball World Cup being played in Croatia, Denmark and Norway has begun. Brazil beat Chile in the second round 28-24 and is already thinking about Sweden, its next rival.

The Brazilian national team won against Chile in the first date of the second round of Group III at the Unity Arena in the city of Oslo.

 

First part more even

During the beginning of the game, both teams remained goal for goal, until they were tied 5-5. After some mistakes in the Chilean defense, the Brazilians took advantage to score and move away from the scoreboard. They went to the break 13-10 in favor of the green and yellow team that had a 57% effectiveness in the first part of the game.

Final and Brazilian triumph

In the second half, Chile started losing the ball in the first play, which was capitalized by Gustavo Rodrigues of Brazil to open the scoreboard. Chile maintained good passages of play during most of the match, preventing the Brazilians from extending their advantage. Felipe García Fuentes, goalkeeper of La Roja had some key saves, the defense did the same blocking Brazil’s attack that went for more than 4 minutes without scoring when they had 19 goals scored.

The team coached by Aitor Etxaburut, managed to add and organize its offense, getting to within one goal of its rival. They had two opportunities from the penalty spot to even the match. First, Mateus Martins, the Brazilian goalkeeper, blocked Rodrigo Salinas’ shot from 7 meters. Then it was the turn of Erwin Feutchmann, who converted the goal and tied the match 20-20. Marcus Tata, coach of Brazil requested Time Out to organize the Brazilian attack and defense. Chile, with 8 minutes to go, managed to take the lead but they quickly tied it.

In the last minutes of the game Brazil took advantage and won 28-24, the Brazilian scorer was Haniel Langaro with 8 goals, while Esteban Salinas of Chile scored 7 goals.

The MVP of the match was Matías Paya of the Chilean national team.

Upcoming matches

In Group III, Brazil will play next Friday, January 24 against Sweden at 14.00 and closes on Sunday, January 26 against Spain at 14.00. Meanwhile, Chile faces Norway this Friday at 16.30 and closes the phase on Sunday, January 26 against Portugal at 11.30.
