Paraguay wins against Chile in the opening day of the HSCA Senior. The girls coached by Marizza Faria defeated the Chileans 28-21.
First half
Paraguay opened the scoreboard quickly with an effective penetration of the Chilean defense, but the interventions of the goalkeeper Madeleine Cortez, with six saves in the first half, prevented the Guaraníes from extending their lead.
Despite an erratic start, with Chile losing balls and Paraguay missing key shots, the Chileans managed to balance the scoreboard after 7 minutes thanks to Gabriela Muller. As the first half wore on, Paraguay’s offense improved significantly, showing a 52.4% effectiveness in its shots. Meanwhile, Chile suffered with 11 missed shots.
At the end of the first half, Paraguay managed to take the lead with a score of 11-7.
Second half
The second half was more intense, with Chile managing to reduce its margin of errors and committing fewer unforced errors. However, Paraguay continued to show superiority and maintained control of the game throughout the second half.
Despite the Chilean effort, Paraguay extended its advantage and ended up winning 28-21. The scorers of the match were Fatima Acuña of Paraguay and Josefa Araya of Chile, both with 6 goals.
The player of the match was Fernanda Insfran of Paraguay, who stood out for her performance and key contribution to the victory of the team coached by Marizza Faria.
STATEMENTS
Fernanda Insfran, player of the Paraguay National Team:
“We are happy for this victory, even though we started winning the first half I feel we were a little uncomfortable. What I highlight about my team is that all together we were able to pull this off.
Against Chile is always a tough match, it is already a classic and I am very happy to get these first points”.
Alicia Torres, player of the Chile National Team:
“I think we could have played a better game, especially in the first half. In defense we are working on things and in attack we were flowing a lot, we had a preparatory tour in Brazil, we had good previous matches, but today we were generally better. We took the first step, we hope to win the next match and go from strength to strength in the tournament”.
