La Celeste got a convincing victory over El Salvador in the fourth date of the SCA Senior Women’s Handball. In this way Uruguay is in the fight for the qualification to the World Cup in Germany/Netherlands 2025.
CELESTIAL COUNTER-ATTACK
From the first minutes, Uruguay’s game was based on recovering the ball and looking for quick transitions to counterattack. On the side of El Salvador, they generated 10 scoring chances but only scored 3 goals. With an effectiveness of 88.46%, the attack of the team coached by Leonardo Puñales was lethal. This allowed the Charrúas to go to the break with a 23-3 lead.
VICTORY WITH A WORLD CUP FLAVOR
In the second half everything continued as in the first half. Uruguay continued to run and El Salvador tried to improve their positional attacks to increase their scoring.
Uruguay closed the game with a convincing 49-6 victory.
The top scorer of the match was Uruguay’s Martina Barreiro with 8 goals. She was also chosen as the MVP of the match.
Second consecutive victory for Uruguay, which is dreaming of qualifying for the World Cup.

“We are very happy for the victory. We are already preparing for tomorrow’s match in search of a place in the World Cup.
“We are four days into the tournament, we have to give a lot of rotation in the team in order to be good until the last game.”
Marta Cuellar, player of the El Salvador national team:
“The truth is that on this fourth day we are still very excited, because it is a dream to be playing at this level. We know that it is being difficult for us, but our interest is to dominate the regional area of Central America. We knew it was going to be tough, we played with Olympic and world players”.
“Our squad is still very young with people who have not yet participated in a Central American tournament. We know that in order to be great we have to be at this level, we are taking with us a very good experience”.
