Paraguay is preparing under the orders of Marizza Faria, the coach of the Guarani national team, whose main objective is to qualify for the World Cup in Germany/Netherlands 2025.
Paraguay’s national team has been on a clear upward trend for several years. An example of this growth was the bronze medal obtained at the Pan American Games, Santiago 2023.
- How many of the players who participated in that competition are still in the Paraguayan national team today?
We have nine players who have been in the Pan American Games. The changes that have occurred have been due to injury or retirement.
Another highlight of 2024 was Paraguay’s participation in the Pre-Olympic Games in April.
- From that event until today, have you been able to have continuity in the preparation work?
Unfortunately, after the pre-Olympics we didn’t have the continuity we really need.
In order to compete in the pre-Olympic for the first time, Paraguay held a training camp in Barcelona and it was a very positive experience.
It was an effort of the Paraguayan Olympic Committee, the National Sports Secretariat and especially the Paraguayan Handball Confederation.

- How many players compete abroad?
Currently, we have a lot of players competing in the leagues in Spain and also in Brazil. We have incorporated new people to the national team so that they can adapt to the game model.
Another of our objectives is the Junior Pan American Games 2025, so we want them to gain more experience and grasp the concepts.

- Will Paraguay’s main objective be to qualify?
Of course, we have set ourselves the goal of qualifying for a third consecutive World Cup. It would be historic for Paraguay.
We know it will be complicated, all the teams are evolving, growing and the level in South America is becoming more and more competitive.
It is clear to us that we have to work very hard to be able to compete with all the countries and I believe that in the Pan American Games in Santiago 2023, Paraguay competed with all of them. We are working to be able to continue growing.
- Regarding the technical staff, how is it composed?
New people have been incorporated in the physiotherapy and physical preparation area. The technical assistant continues to be Alexander Ruiz Díaz, who is in charge of training with the players when I cannot be present.
Ana Seabra, the video analyst, is in charge of preparing the scouting of all the teams.
We also have our delegate Martín Duarte, who has been with us since I started working with the national team.
