It’s the cadets’ turn: the SCA U16 Handball 2024 begins! The men’s and women’s tournament, to be held from September 24 to 28 in Asunción, Paraguay, kicked off with great intensity.
The victories of Brazil, Argentina, Uruguay and Paraguay were the highlights of a vibrant opening day.
Brazil vs. Chile female. It’s the cadets’ turn: the HSCA Under 16 Asunción 2024 kicks off!
The Olympic Training Center of Asuncion was the scene of the vibrant start of the SCA U16 Handball.
In the opening match, the champion team, Brazil, faced Chile in the women’s category, with a clear victory for the Brazilians, who dominated the match thanks to an impenetrable defense that disarticulated the Chilean attack.
Louise Gomes was the top scorer of the match with 6 goals, while for Chile, Catalina Gonzalez was the top scorer with 3 goals.
Brazil’s solid defensive structure forced Chile to make mistakes, making it easier for the Verdeamarelos to extend their lead in the second half. The first half score was 16-9 in favor of Brazil.
Chile, unable to find space to make their moves, was frustrated by a great performance by the Brazilian goalkeeper, who neutralized the clear chances of Javier Cardenas’ team. The game ended 32-17 in favor of Brazil.

Uruguay vs. Paraguay B men. It’s the cadets’ turn: the HSCA Under 16 Asunción 2024 kicks off!
The action also started at the Arena Cop, with the game between Uruguay and Paraguay B in the men’s division.
The Paraguayan team dominated the locals with a strong defense that forced mistakes in the Paraguayan attack, leading them to circulate the ball without being able to find clear spaces. Matteo Punzo, with 7 goals, led the sky-blue attack.
From the first half, which ended 11-4 in Uruguay’s favor, the Uruguayan team controlled the pace of the game.
The defensive pressure and the good performance of Nicolás Llanes, in goal, contributed to maintain the advantage. Paraguay B could not adapt to Uruguay’s rhythm and was outplayed at both ends of the court, ending the match 23-12 in favor of the visitors.

Argentina vs Peru male
Argentina showed a clear superiority against Peru, with a dynamic attack and a compact defense that limited the Peruvian team’s scoring opportunities.
Lautaro Roa was the top scorer with 6 goals, while Santiago Casanova of Peru managed to score 4 goals for his team.
The team coached by Pablo Robledo imposed their fast and precise rhythm of play, dominating both halves without allowing Peru to react, obtaining their first victory in the tournament by 36-11.

Uruguay vs Paraguay B female
In the fourth match of the day, Uruguay defeated Paraguay B in the women’s category. In a match that was even during the first half, but in which the Uruguayans were able to take advantage of the local team’s mistakes to take advantage in the last minutes.
Guillermina Arce stood out with 7 goals, while Abigail Cáceres was the top scorer for Paraguay B with 4 goals.
The first half ended 13-8 in Uruguay’s favor, and although the beginning of the second half was more disputed, Uruguay’s ball steals and fast play allowed the Charrúas to extend their lead and seal the victory with a score of 26-14.

Brazil vs Chile male
At the end of the day, Brazil and Chile played a tight match from start to finish. The constant exchange of goals kept the score even, reaching halftime with a 15-15 tie.
Eduardo Rodrigues was the scorer for Brazil with 8 goals, while Cristobal Silva led Chile with 6 goals.
The reigning champions took advantage in the second half thanks to their effectiveness in the 6-meter shots and an improvement in their defense, which thwarted several Chilean attacks.
After the first 15 minutes of the second half, Brazil was able to take the lead and win its first victory in the tournament by 30-25.

Paraguay A vs Peru female
Paraguay A and Peru in the women’s category closed the first day of competition. In a match that at times was evenly matched, Paraguay A won with a score of 30-20.
The match had three outstanding scorers: Heidy Ramos of Paraguay A, and Sophia Martin and Ana Valeria Ramos of Peru, with 6 goals each.
The locals showed an efficient attack and took advantage of the spaces in the Peruvian defense, while Peru struggled to stay in the match, but could not contain the local offense. Paraguay A’s consistency and effectiveness were key to consolidate the victory.
