The first day of the U14 Men’s and Women’s Handball SCA to be held from September 17-21 in Asuncion, Paraguay, was full of excitement.
The triumph of Chile, Argentina and Paraguay, both in women and men marked the opening day.
Summary Day 1
The day began with Chile’s 30-19 win over Paraguay B in the men’s team, imposing their game from the start.
The Chilean team stood out with an organized defense that closed the spaces for Paraguay’s attacks, forcing errors and recovering key balls.
In attack, Nicolas Hernandez’s team was effective in their shots from the wings, disarming the Paraguayan defense and maintaining a comfortable advantage.
Mateo García of Chile was the scorer of the match. On the other hand, court 1 opened the tournament with the match between Chile and Uruguay women.
The women coached by Sebastian Caliri defeated Uruguay 27-25 in a tight match from start to finish.
Despite the Uruguayan resistance, Chile managed to maintain a slight advantage during the match, securing the victory with a firm defense and an efficient attack at key moments. Agustina Menéndez of Chile was the scorer of the match.
Then it was the turn of a South American classic. Argentina women defeated Brazil 29-21, controlling the match with a solid defense that nullified the connections of the Brazilian attack.
On offense, the Argentines took good advantage of counterattacks and speed in transition, scoring quick goals that dismantled Brazil’s defensive structure.
The ball handling in the first line and the precision in the shots from nine meters were also key to the victory of the Albicelestes. The scorer of the match was Micaela Zangui of Argentina.
Paraguay A won a hard-fought 29-24 match against Uruguay in the men’s team. The albirroja pressured the Uruguayan attackers from the beginning, generating turnovers that turned into effective counterattacks for the charrúa team.
In attack, Paraguay was patient, moving the ball with fluidity and taking advantage of the spaces generated by the slow transitions of the Uruguayan defense, managing to maintain control of the match until the end. Valentino Roldan of Uruguay was the scorer of the match. Almost at the end of the day there was another South American classic, but this time for the men’s teams, where the Albiceleste won 29-21 against Brazil.
The team coached by Rubén Busolin controlled the match from the beginning, taking advantage of the mistakes of the green and yellow team and reaching halftime with a 15-9 lead.
In the second half, the solid defense and goalkeeper Romeo Puig ensured the advantage, culminating in a 29-20 final score. Gonzalo Perznianko was the scorer with 6 goals. The closing of the first day of the SCA U14 Handball was marked by the triumph of Paraguay A in the women’s team against Paraguay B. The match ended 37-23 with Paraguay A dominating the entire game.
