Great triumph of Paraguay in the SCA U14 Handball Championship. On the third day of competition, the locals and the last champion of the tournament, Paraguay won 31-30 against Chile, adding their second victory in the SCA U14.
Game summary
The first minutes of the game were very even, both teams made mistakes on offense, with ball losses and erratic shots. This was due to the high intensity of the game with quick and short attacks.
From the start, Paraguay’s coach, Rodrigo Rojas, decided to use a personal defense on Chile’s number 10 player, Tomás Lladser .
However, he knew how to get out of the way and managed the positional attack of his team. On the Guarani side, they took advantage of Chile’s weaknesses in defense to mark the pivot, being able to score many goals.
In addition, the first half featured great performances from Nicolás Calquin (Chile) and Juan Giménez (Paraguay) with high percentages of saves. The first half ended 14-13 in favor of Paraguay.

A very even second half
In the second half, the intensity of the game continued. Paraguay went 6 goals up, but after a time out requested by the coach of Chile, Nicolás Hernandez, “La Roja” got back into the match.
A great defense with ball steals and positional errors by the locals allowed the Mapocho team to tie the game with one minute to go.
In the last play, a defensive lapse by the visitors left Paraguay’s left winger alone to score the winning goal.
The scorers were Tomás Lladser of Chile with 6 goals and Mauricio Mongelos of Paraguay with 7 goals.

STATEMENTS
Juan Gimenez, player of the Paraguay A National Team:
“A very incredible feeling because the sacrifice we made for 6 months was very noticeable. The help of Samuel, who was shouting at me the whole game, encouraging me with everything and a lot is thanks to him”.
Mateo García , player of the Chilean National Team:
“In a way, we were very anxious because we had been playing very well. We thought that this match would not be so complicated for us.
Looking ahead to the next game, we have to think that we still have a chance to win a medal. That’s our goal, because after this match we won’t be able to be on the top of the podium.
Now Argentina is next, which is a very difficult opponent, but we must not lose hope”.
