COSCABAL launches Licensing Program for trainers

The Confederation of South and Central America Handball launches the Coaches Licensing Program, together with the International Handball Federation (IHF), which seeks to regulate technical commissions worldwide and professionalize the activity of coaches. Led by the COSCABAL Development Commission, the Coaches Licensing Program seeks to standardize the training of technical directors at the continental level.
This is the first step to comply with IHF requirements, which will oblige all coaches to have a category level by the year 2028.

“The COSCABAL IHF Coaches Licensing Program is one of the most important projects for the development of handball for the countries of South and Central America”, said Marcel Mancillapresident of the Confederation of South and Central American Handball.
“Not only because technically it is designed for long-term development, modernization, specialization and standardization in the training of our coaches, but also because it is universal, it will reach all countries and will generate the basis for COSCABAL licensing with its own style and philosophy of handball. In addition, one of the people in charge of the training is Eduardo “Dady” Gallardo, who with an extensive experience as a coach will officiate as IHF Lector in the countries of the continent that will be part of the Program.

And he even clarified that it is COSCABAL that designates the host countries and dates for the IHF to send a Lector and added: “There is no staff but rather a designated Lector who is in charge of teaching the course.”

Trainer’s License Program in South and Central America

The first place where this program has already worked is in Africa, and now COSCABAL managed with the IHF the delivery of provisional licenses, which serve to form the basis of coaches in each country.
And once they obtain these provisional licenses, they will have to be trained year after year in order to progress in level and thus obtain the definitive licenses.
The courses will have a quota of 20 to 35 coaches, and will be designated by each Federation.
“With COSCABAL’s Development Commission, we aspire for our continental licensing to have a local added value. That is to say, we will continue building our way of playing Handball with technique, grit, passion and a lot of heart.” said COSCABAL president Marcel Mancilla.

What are licenses?

The IHF licenses are those that will give coaches the option to coach in different categories, and for that they must be part of the training that COSCABAL together with the International Handball Federation carry out in the countries that have already joined the Program.
There are four categories, each one enables coaches to exercise their role in different stages.A: Enables to coach Adult category.
B: Enables to coach Junior category (S20). C: Enables to train Cadet (S16) and Juvenile (S18) categories.
D: Enables to train category Minors (S14). You may also be interested in International Beach Handball Course Beginner Level and Level I for coaches. Photos: CoSCABal / Germán Paez.
