Chile overcame Brazil at the SCA U14 Men’s Handball Championship being played in Asuncion, Paraguay. The Chilean team (2023 champion) was more regular throughout the match and s e won the game.
First half
The first minutes of the game were very laborious for both teams with long positional plays due to good defenses.
The difference was in the effectiveness, Chile was able to convert and Brazil missed their shots or met with the Chilean goalkeeper’s saves.
In this way, the team led by Nicolás Hernández achieved a 7-2 partial in their favor. As the minutes went by, the match became back and forth with faster attacks which generated a high scoring. They closed a partial 18-14 in favor of Chile that was able to keep the initial advantage.
Complement
The second half had both teams going from area to area during the first 20 minutes. The green and yellow team managed to get into the game and reduce the difference to 2 goals.
As a result of mistakes in Brazil’s offense and great saves by goalkeeper Nicolás Calquin, Chile scored an incredible 7-0 lead, completely shutting down their goal in the last 10 minutes.
The match ended 33-24 in favor of the Chilean team. The scorers of the match were: Edgar Vassiliu (8) and Tomás Lladser (7) of Chile along with Arthur Lima (7) and Miguel Oliveira (7) of Brazil.

“A very wonderful feeling to be here at the South American. We didn’t get the win but we tried to play the game the best we could on defense and offense.”
Nicolás Calquin, player of the Chilean National Team:
“It was a tough game, we’ve been preparing for a couple of days with the coach because we came from the defeat against Paraguay A, which hurt us a little. We were able to pick ourselves up thanks to him and our commitment to each other.”
