Cristiano Rocha on the preview of Paris 2024

In dialogue with Cristiano Rocha in the run-up to Paris 2024. The Brazilian women’s national team has been preparing intensively to face the competition of the next Olympic Games.

The coach and his technical committee held a training camp in the city of Rio de Janeiro and then traveled to Europe where they are finalizing a series of friendlies.

In a first stage, they worked for 20 days in Rio de Janeiro, 21 players were called to start the practices with the Olympic Games in mind.

The campus was held at the Training Center of the Brazilian Olympic Committee, where they had enough space to develop intense days of physical and tactical activities.

Preparation close to home

“The players often go a long time without seeing their families, their friends, without returning to their place of origin. Having done the training camp in Brazil is something that allowed them to recharge and feed on good energy.”

The Brazilian national team has a technical commission where each member has different functions: Rita Orsi supervisor, Alvaro Casagrande technical assistant, Luiz Manfredini physical trainer. Other members are Gabriel Bezerra performance analyst, Marcos Paulo goalkeeping coach, Pauline Silva and Raquel Marques doctors, Júlia Bargieir nutritionist, Jéssica Rocha and Marina Calister physiotherapists, Ana Carla massotherapist.

In addition, they have a staff of 5 analysts who collect information on the teams they will face in the Olympic Games and also collect data on each of the players.

“We have a large database that helps us put together strategies, but later in the game there are times when we have to improvise and change everything in fractions of seconds.”

“It is a dynamic and open sport so different situations can arise, eI’m sure there are many good things and that can make Brazil have a great performance at the Olympic Games.”

Series of friendlies

After the training camp and with the list of confirmed players, they traveled to Europe to face a series of friendly matches.

The first game was a 36-31 victory over Germany, then they beat Slovenia 29-23 and in the closing game they lost 27-20 to Germany in Stuttgart.

“Our goal is to create an environment where the young players feel comfortable, it is important to create a harmonious, heterogeneous team with a mix of experience and youth”.

“The younger girls surprised me and showed their ability to be in an Olympic Games.

“Renewal is always a positive point, as the younger ones can be the necessary fuel and a source of energy for the team.”
