One day before the start of the 11th edition of the Beach Handball Championship, Women and Men, which will last until June 23 on the island of Pingtan in the People’s Republic of China, Mauricio Santiago from Uruguay tells us how the team arrived to Asian lands.
The Uruguayan men’s national team is in China ready to compete in the World Cup, in Group D along with Germany, Qatar and the United States. The Charrúa team is already familiar with their opponents, who have been working since March.
A first step was to dispute the South Central played in Asuncion where with the third place they qualified for the World Cup and then the work continued and integrated a group of new young players for what was the stage of the Global Tour played in Maricá, several of these players made their first steps with the sky-blue.
Richard Bica, Matías Olheguy, Francisco Gallo, Mauricio Santiago, Andrés Miranda, Mauricio Gallo, Santiago Rodríguez, Rodrigo Pérez, Sebastián Sagasti and Fernando Sequeira traveled to the World Tournament.
“We have studied them and they are very good teams with a lot of potential, but Uruguay will put up a fight and we will battle game by game…”.said Mauricio Santiago.
“We are going to improve our sixth place in the last World Cup in Greece, aspiring to reach the semifinals. Uruguay is going cautiously, match by match and little by little, always improving our game and playing good beach handball”, closed Santiago.Santiago closed.
Uruguay’s national team will begin the competition against Germany on Tuesday, June 18, followed by a match against Qatar on Wednesday and the United States in the evening.
