The third place match of the South Central American Men’s Club Handball Championship 2024 was played in the city of Taubaté in Brazil. Nacional faced San Fernando at Gimnasio Emecal, the duel was a victory for the Brazilian team 37-35 over San Fernando.
Nacional was in charge of opening the scoreboard after two minutes of scoreless play. Francisco Stringhini’s team played an even first half. Both teams had been physically exhausted and this was reflected on the field. They went to the half-time break 18-17 in favor of Nacional.
In the second half, Nacional took a three-goal lead using a different attacking strategy than in the first half. San Fernando good blocking made it difficult for the rival to score and in this way San Fernando turned the result around.
Nacional logró convertir, mejorar su defensa y ataque, además de contar con las tapadas de sus dos goleros que fue crucial para que conjunto argentino no convirtiera.
The final result gave the third place in the championship to Nacional, which closed the score 37-35. The MVP of the game was Mariano Canepa.
The results of the matches played in the first hour in the Club Handball SCA, started with Met’s victory over Partille by 43-26. Then, River Plate defeated Universitario by 35-28. Liceo Nacional de Maipú beat Colegio Alemán by 29-25 and Praia Clube overcame Colegio Ward by 28-27.

Kevin Urban San Fernando player: “The participation in the tournament has not been as we expected, we knew it was going to be difficult, we were in a group in which all the teams were competitive. Playing day after day wears you down, we were coming from two difficult matches and we missed out on third place.”
Gustavo Paiva player of Nacional: “We came with a very marked objective, which was to be in the final, among the best, we did not get some results but today we came with a well established objective and we achieved the third place”.
