River and Universitario tie in an intense Argentine duel at the SCA Club Handball SCA

The third day of the South Central American Club Handball Championship opened with a duel of Argentine teams, River Plate vs Universitario de Córdoba in a defining day. The dynamic went goal for goal, Universitario tied in the last minutes of the game, ending 33-33.

The first half was even, Rodrigo Barrera team progressively found spaces in their rival’s defense and managed to take the lead on the scoreboard. The solid defense of the Cordoba team added to the good saves of their goalkeeper Maximiliano Muñoz ended in an effective counterattack and they were able to close the first half 21-12.

In the final 30 minutes, River attacking effectiveness improved significantly. In the first half of the game, they missed 18 shots, but managed to turn the game around, turning it into a much more dynamic game full of intensity. River Plate reduced the ten-goal deficit to just two goals in the first third of the second half. At the end, the game remained goal for goal, with River leading by one goal, but Martín Fernández brought the tie for the Cordobeses, ending 33-33. The MVP of the match was Mariano Gallardo of River Plate.

Bautista Arrom, River Plate playerWe were certainly looking for the three points, to fight higher up, but we played a first half with a much lower intensity than the second and it shows in the results, we scored nine goals in the second half, which shows that we were not intense enough in the first half. The feeling we go to the dressing room with is not the one we deserved”.
