Ovalle makes history and takes third place in the SCA Women’s Club Handball Championship

On the last day of the Campeonato Handball SCA Clubes Femenino, Ovalle defeated Nacional 39-24 to win third place in the tournament. Gabriela Müller, was elected the MVP of the match.

Ovalle and Nacional had already met in the group stage, in that match the Chilean team obtained a valuable draw in the final seconds of the game. On the last day, they crossed paths again for a place on the podium, the team coached by Felipe Maurin, played a dynamic game with a solid defense that prevented Nacional from finding the spaces.

Gabriela Müller of Ovalle, opened the scoreboard and thus in the beginning it was an even match, but as the clock went on the Chileans increased their scoring. They went to the break 18-9 in favor of the Ovalle.

In the second half, the team coached by Silvio Rodrigues Da Silva did not give up and managed to gradually break the Chilean defense and get closer to the scoreboard. The great performance of Eduarda Bavaresco helped the Chileans not to extend the distance. However, solid passing connectivity and several steals by Ovalle allowed Gabriela Müller to score to put a 15-goal difference in their favor.
Towards the end of the match, Chilean goalkeeper Valentina Pacheco helped maintain the favorable advantage to close the match 39-24 with a historic third place for the Ovalle team. The MVP of the match was Gabriela Müller.

Consuelo Lizana, player from Ovalle: “Very happy for the third place, proud of my teammates. It was a very nice experience, it was an incredible championship, we fought in all the matches and these feelings are the ones I take back home”.
Maria Julia Maju, Nacional player: “Unfortunately today we did not achieve third place. We have been working very hard this year, but this was our first competition of the year, we still have a lot of work ahead of us. A new season is coming for Nacional.

In other defining results of the morning, Goes secured the seventh place by defeating Jockey Club Córdoba in a close match full of intensity. Goes’ solid defense and quick counterattacks were decisive in overcoming their rivals with a final score of 25-14. In the other match, Sedalo took fifth place after a convincing victory over Ferro 26-20.
