At the end of the second day of the South Central American Championship held in San Jose, Brazil. Ovalle (Chile) beat Scuola Italiana (Uruguay) by 26-20. With this result, the Chilean team leads the Group 1 standings.

Ovalle was in charge of scoring the first goal of the game through Valeria Carrasco, but on counterattack Scuola Italiana managed to score and equalize the score, so during most of the first half both teams maintained the parity of goals.
The girls coached by Daniela Mata could not close the spaces and their defense suffered the attacks of Gabriela Müller, who was the key for Ovalle to go to the break up 17-13.

In the second half, the Chilean team came out determined to win. Goalkeeper Claudia Alvarez was key in the defense of her posts and the effectiveness of number 10, Francisca Parra in the conversions stretched the difference and in this way Ovalle took the victory.

Post-match statements:
Alicia Torres of Club Ovalle:
“We had all the faith that we could win, yesterday we played and we were tired, it was a very physical match but it served to break the ice and to come to play a little more tactical and with head. In the final minutes, I tried to tell my teammates to calm down, it was a tough game and we knew how to control it.
At halftime we calmed down, we breathed and that is very important. We are making history with Ovalle and we hope to advance to the semis, we are very happy with our participation here”.
